The Final “Killer B” Is Gone

For the better part of 3-4 season, our outfield consistent of Jackie Bradley Jr., Andrew Benintendi, and Mookie Betts, the “Killer B’s.” With Betts being traded last offseason, immediately following up with Bennitendi being traded and Bradley Jr. signing with the Brew Crew, the “killer B’s” are no more.

Jackie Bradley Jr.

Yesterday Jackie Bradley Jr. signed 2-year 24 million dollar deal with the Milwaukee Brewers. I will start by saying this, SEE YA DINK!! I am fine with seeing him go, especially for $24 million. I’ve said this until I was blue in the face; he is nothing more than a great defensive Center fielder. He is a liability when it comes to hitting, especially with how streaky he is. Let’s face it; he can’t hit water if he fell out of a boat. I want nothing to do with giving him $24 mill, especially after shipping out both Betts and Benny for salary relief. He came up with a few big home runs in the postseason in 2018, and I know that fans are thankful for that. What did those hits cover up tho? A .185 average over 65 at-bats. As you can see, you can make the argument that yea, he had clutch hits, but he also hurt them in other spots throughout the postseason.

That being said, he is an unbelievably great guy. What does that matter? Well, he is a good clubhouse presence, especially with many young guys coming up on this year’s team.

Why Is He Not Back

I think it really comes down to this, Jarren Duran. He has sent the world on fire both while playing Winter ball in Puerto Rico and now this past week in Spring Training. While I don’t think he breaks camp with the Sox this year, he will be up at some point through this season. IF that cup of coffee goes well and turns it into a longer stay than anticipated, he is probably our starting center fielder in 2022. That being said, Bradley being here, especially at $24 mill, means he would just be blocking Duran. Will Duran be as good in the outfield as JBJ? Probably not, but it is hard to be that good. What can he do? Hit. Baseball is all about offense right now, especially with the “3 true outcomes” being more and more evident in today’s game. I mean that the game is focused on 3 outcomes every at-bat; Home run, Strikeout, and Walks. Jackie definitely struck out; the only issue is, he did walk or hit home runs. Duran seems to be an all-around complete player that is ready to go in the next 8-12 months.

Conclusion

Nice knowing you, JBJ! Don’t let the door hit you on the way out. Also, give your agent a hell of a raise for the fact that they found a way to get you $24 million. Bravo to them! I do wish you all the best I just wish you went to a team I really didn’t like so that way I could still laugh at the fact you cant figure out how to hit a baseball. You can definitely catch it, that’s for sure! The Brew Crew pitching staff is definitely going to love having you patrol CF for them, but that lack of a bat will frustrate the hell out of Craig Counsell.
