The Daily (1/9/21)
Welcome back to the daily, as today we have three sports that we are going to be discussing. That’s right we have the start of the NFL Playoffs today, to go along with the NBA and CBB. Before we do that let’s go over yesterday’s slate of games shall we. Now the games I wrote about I was spot on about, everything else was not great. Big card is incoming today though, and we will look to bounce back in a big way today. Don’t forget to follow The Chasers on twitter (@thechasers617), and give us a listen on Spotify and SoundCloud as well. With that being said here are the daily picks.
NFL:
Indianapolis Colts vs Buffalo Bills
The Buffalo Bills are hosting their first playoff game since 1996 as they host the Indianapolis Colts. Buffalo is back in the playoffs for the second straight season and for the third time in four years. All credit to Sean McDermott who has been incredible for a Bills organization that was looking for a spark. Let’s take a look at the Bills offense which took a huge step forward this year as they traded for Stefon Diggs this off season and it has really paid off. Diggs led the league in not only targets, but receptions and receiving yards as well. We also have to give Josh Allen props for taking that step forward by having a reliable guy like Diggs to throw to.
Now we look at the Colts side and wow is Frank Reich and company set for the future. They have a very talented backfield which includes Jonathan Taylor, Nyheim Hines, and Marlon Mack (who is out for the remainder of the season). Right now they have a guy at quarterback that more than likely will see his name called to Canton when things are said and done in Phillip Rivers. They also have a solid defense that is a force to be reckoned with. Guys like Darius Leonard and company are ready to make a statement today.
It is a hard decision today, but let us look at the numbers and see what Vegas thinks of this game. Vegas has Buffalo as a 6.5 point favorite with the over and under being set at 51. I have a stat that is leaning me to pick what I am going to pick today. That stat is that Phillip Rivers is undefeated in the Wild Card Round (4-0) in his career.
Pick: Indianapolis ML (1u/2.45u), Under 51 (1.08u/1u)
Other NFL Plays:
Seattle -3 (2.08u/2u)
Under 42.5 (Rams vs Seattle) (1.09u/1u)
Washington ML (1u/3.4u)
Under 45 (Tampa Bay vs Washington) (1.13u/1u)
CBB:
Texas vs West Virginia
The number four team in the country the Texas Longhorns are on the road in Morgantown to take on West Virginia who is ranked number 14 in the country as well. This game is going to be a must watch for any basketball fan out there. When the Texas Longhorns are good at college basketball, it is very good for the NCAA. Shaka Smart has finally implemented his prints over this Longhorn team and has them out firing on all cylinders so far this season. Being led by their three headed monster in the back court of Coleman III, Ramey, and Jones; the Longhorns have gotten off to a great start. Also don’t forget that they have former five star recruit Greg Brown as well.
Now for the Mountaineers they are led by the likes of Miles McBride and Derek Culver who have been very solid for Bob Huggins. For West Virginia today they are going to need one of Sean McNeil or Emmitt Matthew Jr. to have a solid game today. Texas is going to be all over this West Virginia team, and one of them needs to step off so they will take pressure off of McBride and Culver. I do see this game being a let down game for the Longhorns as they get ready to take on rival Texas Tech next. With that being said my pick should be easy to decipher.
Pick: West Virginia ML (1.24u/1u)
Other CBB Plays:
Alabama -5 (1.12u/1u)
Wake Forest +14.5 (1.09u/1u)
Hofstra ML (1.24u/1u)
Vanderbilt ML (1u/1.43u)
URI +6 (1.09u/1u)
Uconn -2.5 (1.12u/1u)
Over 128.5 (Tulane Houston) (1.09u/1u)
Florida -4.5 (1.12u/1u)
UCLA ML (1u/1.3u)
NBA:
Portland vs Sacramento
The Portland Trailblazers head to Sacramento to play the Kings who are coming off a tough home loss last night to the Raptors. The Blazers played Thursday against Minnesota and will look to use their fresher legs tonight against the Kings. These last 20 matchups haven’t really gotten Sacramento’s way as the Kings are 5-15 straight up in their last 20 meetings against the Blazers. For myself personally looking at the trends and the fact that Sacramento played last night I just see no way how they win this game tonight. The Kings are going to need everybody to produce tonight as they have to get ready for one of the best back courts in the league. Dame and McCollum will show up tonight in a big way and the Blazers will cover the 6 point spread.
Pick: Portland -6 (2.2u/2u)
Other NBA Plays:
Over 222 (Denver Philadelphia) (1.12u/1u)
Over 35.5 PTS REBS & ASTS Sabonis (1.21u/1u)
Atlanta -5 (1.12u/1u)
Washington +6.5 (1.1u/1u)
Over 217.5 (Orlando Dallas) (1.12u/1u)
