The Celtics Win Streak Ends At 10, Lose Heartbreaker to Kings

It was nice while it lasted, huh? The Boston Celtics were on a ten game winning streak going into yesterday’s tilt with the Sacramento Kings. The Celtics had the ball down one with time ticking down on the clock. Marcus Smart put up a floater in the lane, and came up JUST short. Seriously, watch how close this shot was to going in and winning the game for the Celtics.

An inch to the right and that ball might go in for the Celtics. But oh well, that’s basketball sometimes! So, why did the Celtics lose this game? Let’s look into it a bit.

A Horrendous First Quarter

The Celtics scored 18 points in the first quarter. When you’re trying to keep a winning streak alive, that isn’t the start you want to have offensively. Also, they gave up 30 points in the first quarter. Being down 12 after the first quarter is simply inexcusable for this team. Obviously, they fought their way back. But a better first quarter probably leads to an easy victory.

Marcus Smart

Smart tied for the team high in assists with nine, along with Kemba Walker. But, Smart offensively wasn’t present. He finished with only five points on the night. Was it a Jayson Tatum vs. Dallas type of game? Not really. But, Marcus needs to step up, especially with Hayward coming out. If he has a slightly better game, the Celtics win that game.

Buddy Hield

Holy cow, what a game for Buddy Hield! The Celtics simply didn’t have an answer for him. 35 points will usually help a team’s cause for a win. This Celtics team can’t allow for opposing players to have the type of game that Hield had on a nightly basis. But yesterday was Buddy Hield’s day. It happens!

In Conclusion

It stinks, but the winning streak had to end sometime. It’s a quick turnaround as the Celtics battle the Suns tonight. We’ll see what this team is made of with the Suns, Clippers, and Nuggets on deck. Get back to work and prove the 10 game winning streak wasn’t a fluke. Then when Sacramento comes to Boston on Monday, deliver a little bit of payback!
