Rick Porcello Tells C.C. to “Shut Up”

The Red Sox defeated the New York Yankees in the ALDS 3-1 and Rick Porcello decided to add some fuel to this fire known as the Yankees-Red Sox rivalry.  Following the Yankees game four loss to the Red Sox, Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia was asked about home plate umpire Angel Hernandez.

“He’s absolutely terrible, …He was terrible behind the plate today. He was terrible at first base. It’s amazing how he’s getting jobs umpiring in these playoff games.  He shouldn’t be anywhere near these playoff games. He’s bad. I don’t understand why he’s doing these games…It’s sad that he’s doing these games, … It’s crazy. He’s always bad. He’s a bad umpire.”

CC isn’t far off here.  Every single review for the exception of one in the ALDS was a call made by Angel Hernandez including several in game three.  Angel Hernandez does have his issues with MLB as well and we’ll just leave it at that.  Makes you wonder why Hernandez umped in the postseason in the first place.

But when asked about CC’s comments and Angel Hernandez, Porcello had a rather different tune.

OK, he didn’t flat out tell him to shut up but read between the lines.  It’s too bad that these two teams will have to wait until 2019 to renew their rivalry and who knows if CC will be in baseball.  Although Hernandez did have a rather questionable strike zone at times, I’m sure Porcello said this because the Sox won.  If the Red Sox lost, I’m sure it would be a different tune.

But it was nice to finally see some fire in this rivalry.  With Brasier barking at Sanchez to get back in the box.  Judge playing New York New York outside the Red Sox clubhouse.  The Red Sox also playing New York New York in their clubhouse after the win.  And now Porcello telling CC to shut it.  Gotta love the rivalry.
