News broke today that the Red Sox had high-level scouts in attendance for the Giants game last night. What was the pitching matchup for that game? Just a few bums named Madison Bumgarner and Noah Syndergaard. Both names have been thrown around in Trade Talks in the last few weeks. Let the rumors begin to fly!
My take on this rumor, I’m all in ongoing after MadBum. Want nothing to do with going after Syndergaard UNLESS you can get him for a great deal. Both guys will require a big haul in return.
I would just expect the Mets to want MLB ready players, whereas the Giants will be ok with getting top prospects mixed with maybe 1 MLB ready player. Maybe, Sam Travis?
MadBum has struggled a little over the last few seasons but don’t let that cover the fact that he currently has a 2.11 ERA in 102.1 innings pitched in his career in the postseason.
The final reason is simply our bullpen sucks and this guy is a known innings eater. Adding a top arm like him to our rotation pushes another starter to the bullpen which will only help.
The other trade rumor that’s being put out there, again, is Jose Abreu. It seems like every single year we get the rumor of Abreu being a trade target for the Sox but nothing ever comes from it.
I don’t expect this year to be any different but the White Sox are still in the middle of a rebuild with a ton of prospects coming up through the system. This could mean that maybe, just maybe, they’re finally willing to part ways with Abreu to bring in even more younger players. This is definitely a good fit with both Moreland and Pearce out and not having a set return date. Not going to say it won’t happen but will simply leave it as I’m not holding my breath on it.
