Red Sox 2021 first half positives

The Boston Red Sox currently have a 47-31 record. After their upcoming three game series with the Kansas City Royals Monday-Wednesday, they will officially be halfway done with the 2021 season. That means it’s a good time to look at some unexpected positives at the halfway point of the 2021 campaign. Who has stepped up this season when they weren’t expected to? Let’s take a look at a few Red Sox first half positives.

Red Sox First Half Positive Number 1: Alex Verdugo

Alex Verdugo is putting together a nice first half of the 2021 season so far. He’s hitting .276 with nine homeruns and 32 RBI’s. Not only that, he’s also solidifying himself as an emotional leader on this Red Sox team. People can see just how much Verdugo loves to play the game. With the passion comes the production. Verdugo is also playing very consistently in the outfield. There’s even some rumblings about Verdugo sneaking into the All-star game this year as a reserve outfielder. Either way, if he becomes an All-star or not; Alex Verdugo has been a Red Sox first half positive for the 2021 season.

Positive Number 2: Nick Pivetta

Isn’t it funny how the Red Sox were a forgotten team when the Bruins and Celtics were in the midst of their playoff runs? Well now, people won’t forget about starting pitcher Nick Pivetta. Pivetta has been arguably the Red Sox best starting pitcher in the rotation. He had a no hitter after 6.2 innings against the Rays on Thursday nights before being pulled. On the season, Pivetta is 6-3 with a 4.00 era. He also has 94 strikeouts and 38 walks in 81 innings. Red Sox nation has loved what they’ve seen out of Nick Pivetta. They see execution, accountability, and passion. Can’t ask for more than that from a starting pitcher in Boston!

Positive Number 3: Garrett Whitlock

Garrett Whitlock has been the steal of the year for this Red Sox team. Coming over from the Yankees, Whitlock has a 1.42 ERA with 40 strikeouts in 38 innings, along with only 11 walks. Whitlock has been a stable piece in the Red Sox bullpen in 2021. He’s a middle reliever that can give multiple innings if a starter doesn’t last long in a given start. This could be Chaim Bloom’s best find out of all of the acquisitions made this past off-season.

In Conclusion

There’s a lot to be happy about with this Red Sox team so far in 2021. The Red Sox first half positives go beyond the names mentioned in this blog.
