Possible New York Giants Free Agency Targets
NFL free agency is right around the corner and the Giants need to get ready. Franchise tags have come and gone so now teams have a clearer idea of who is on the open market. They need to add at multiple positions and cannot accomplish all of their goals through free agency. The Giants need to keep building through the draft and supplement through free agency. However, let’s take a look at some names the Giants may target in free agency.
Kenny Golladay, WR
Let’s tackle the Giants’ biggest need, wide receiver. Golladay is the most talented wide receiver on the open market since the Buccaneers decided to franchise tag Chris Godwin. Golladay struggled to stay on the field in 2020, but he had the best year of his career in 2019. He had 65 receptions for 1,190 yards and 11 touchdowns. He would immediately step in and be the Giants number one target. The Giants have been looking for a number 1 receiver since they traded Odell Beckham a couple of seasons ago and Golladay fits that description.
Bud Dupree, Edge
Now we look to tackle the Giants second priority, edge rusher. The Giants are set at the defensive tackle position with Dalvin Tomlinson, Dexter Lawrence, and a revitalized Leonard Williams. However, they severely lack on the edge. Bud Dupree, who played 2020 with the Steelers, would step in nicely and revitalize a struggling Giants pass rush. Dupree had 8 sacks in 2020 and a career best 11.5 in 2019. Leonard Williams also had 11.5 sacks in 2020. However, the last time a Giant had at least 11.5 sacks was Jason Pierre-Paul in 2014. Marcus Golden is the only other Giant to reach double digits since JPP did in 2014. Dupree, the DTs, and a possible addition through the draft (Gregory Rousseau?) would lead to a formidable DL.
Any Serviceable Corner
James Bradberry was a smashing success last season. However, the Giants need to pair him with a better option on the other side. There are 5 corners ranked in the top 30 of ESPN’s Top 100 free agents and the Giants would benefit from any one of them. These names include Desmond King, Patrick Peterson, Shaq Griffin, Chidobe Awuzie, and William Jackson III. Any one of them would make an excellent pair with Bradberry. However, there needs to be mutual interest to make a deal happen. Only time will tell to see how the Giants play the corner market.
