Playstation Fiesta Bowl Preview

The Playstation Fiesta Bowl is a bowl matchup that I am beyond excited to watch on New Year’s Day after watching both of the college football playoff games. The matchup in this game is between Oklahoma State (11-2) and Notre Dame (11-1). This New Year’s Six matchup could sneakily be one of the better New Year’s Six games of the day. With that being said here is my preview for the Playstation Fiesta Bowl.

Oklahoma State

The Oklahoma State Cowboys were very close to earning a spot in the College Football playoff. A big loss in the Big 12 championship game ended those dreams for them, however they are due for a great matchup in this bowl game. This offense averages 413.5 total yards of offense per game and averages 30.6 points per game as well. The Cowboys offense is led by quarterback Spencer Sanders who has thrown for 2,468 passing yards to go along with 16 passing touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He also added 543 rushing yards and six touchdowns as well. This Cowboys offense will need a big game from Sanders as his struggles in the last couple of games have hurt this team.

Defensively, the Cowboys give up just over 90 rushing yards per game and only give up 16.8 points per game. Oklahoma State also ranked 26th in total yards allowed per game as well. This Oklahoma State defense will make it tough on Notre Dame’s offense and expect the Cowboys to give their absolute all in this matchup.

Notre Dame

Notre Dame’s offense has been good this season. They average 433.5 total yards of offense per game and average 35.3 points per game. One good thing about this Notre Dame offense was their running game. However, with star running back Kyren Williams opting out to prepare for the NFL Draft it puts the Irish in a pickle. Without Williams this offense is going to have to try and get creative offensively. With the uncertainty if Jack Coan will also play or not due to injury, this Irish offense looks to be in shambles. I am curious to see how this offense will flow without Williams especially against a good Oklahoma State defense.

Defensively for the Irish, they allow 18.3 points per game and give up a little over 360 total yards of offense per game. Notre Dame will be without their starting safety Kyle Hamilton as he will prepare for the NFL Draft. Notre Dame will need the next man up to step up in this one. Can the Irish contain Oklahoma State’s offense is the big question of this matchup.

Prediction:

Notre Dame is a two point favorite with the over/under set at 45. My lean here is the over, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a low scoring affair. So I am staying away from the total and focusing on the spread. My official play here is Notre Dame -2. I love the Irish in this spot, even with all of the opt outs and injuries to this team, they will get the job done against the Cowboys.
