Patriots v.s. Chiefs Preview
This is what will most likely be the biggest game of the regular season for the Patriots. The Chiefs are coming in hot at 5-0, and even thrashed the best defense in the league last week. The Pats seem to have things back on track with back to back wins. Even though they are back to their winning ways, they did not beat a team quite as talented as the Chiefs. Not to mention that the last time the Chiefs came into Gillette they slaughtered the Pats last year. This will be an interesting and most likely high flying matchup.
The Chiefs defense has been less than stellar for the most part this season. They have been dealing with injuries and let a lot of their savvy vets go last season. They have had a very hard time defending running backs this season, both on the ground and in the passing game. This should equal a heavy dosage of both Sony Michel and James White. Both Eric Berry and Justin Houston have been dealing with injuries, which should open up the passing game for Brady. Kendall Fuller has basically been handing receivers catches all season, which should open things up for Edelman and Hogan. No Eric Berry should open up a lot of room for Gronk to finally make an impact this week. The offense against this Chiefs defense should not be an issue in this game.
The Pats defense has had its struggles to this point, and the speed of this offense won’t make it easy on this defense. I don’t think there is a single person in the league that can matchup with Tyreek Hill speed wise. The best guy to mark up on him might be Jonathan Jones, but it won’t be an easy task for anyone. After the defense was shredded by the likes of Eric Ebron last week, Travis Kelce needs to be the biggest priority this week. He will make this defense pay if they play the way they did last week. They also haven’t played a very good running back the last few weeks and Kareem Hunt made them look dumb last season, so Pat Chung needs to have a big game on both Kelce and Hunt. If Gilmore matches up on Sammy Watkins he should be pretty ineffective since they played each other in practice all the years they were in Buffalo. Keeping these guys in check is the best way to keep Mahomes from shredding the defense up.
Overall this is most likely going to be a very back and forth offensive battle. It would take a big surprise for anyone to be kept out of the end zone consistently. But first year QBs in Gillette against Belichick are 0-10 all time, so the odds look in the Pats favor. This won’t be easy, but 45-41 Pats.
