Patriots Sign Wide Receiver Andrew Hawkins

You read that right. The Patriots are adding ANOTHER wide receiver. In this video posted by Andrew Hawkins on Uninterrupted, he announced he would be signing with the defending Super Bowl Champions:

It’ll be a one year deal for Hawkins, making him the 12th wide receiver on the Patriots roster. With this signing, I think the receivers who make the team are already locked in. It should look like something along the lines of Brandin Cooks, Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan, Malcolm Mitchell, Danny Amendola, and now Andrew Hawkins. I can’t imagine they would carry another player at that position simply because it would be too many receivers.

Hawkins spent the last three seasons with the Cleveland Browns, racking up 63 receptions for 824 yards and 2 touchdowns in his best year. The Patriots receiving core was already stacked enough for this upcoming season, and now they’ve gotten even deeper.

The approach they’ve taken to this offseason is unlike anything we’ve seen from them in recent years. They usually sit back and watch the bigger dominos fall, then make their moves. But this year they have been active from start to finish, and I can’t say I hate any of the signings/trades they have made. It really feels like they’re trying to load up and make another run at the Super Bowl next year, and maybe even another undefeated season.
