Patriots Extend Free Agent Tender to LeGarrette Blount

Today, the Patriots extended LeGarrette Blount a free agent tender. According to Ian Rapoport, this basically means that if he signs with another team before July 22, the Patriots are going to get a compensatory draft pick for 2018. If he doesn’t sign with anybody by that deadline, he will end up back in New England.

Blount has been rumored to sign with teams like the Lions and Giants, but this tender will only raise the price. If I had to make a guess I would say that he ends up back in New England, I don’t think anybody will be willing to give up the compensatory pick for a running back who is on the tail end of his prime.

If Blount does end up back here, the Patriots could potentially go into pre-season with nine running backs on the roster. There’s no way they hold onto that many guys, so it’ll be interesting to see who ends up being the odd men out.
