Patriots Drop Heartbreaker to Seattle in Week Two

It’s a game that they never should have been in from the start. Seattle should’ve ran away with this game at home, and with Russell Wilson under center. But of course, the Patriots find a way to keep it close. Literally one yard away from winning the ballgame on the final play. But alas, it wasn’t meant to be. The Patriots dropped a heartbreaker to the Seattle Seahawks last night 35-30.

I will say, this game was exciting from the first minute to the final play. Let’s look back at a few key things from last night.

The Patriots Defense

A pick-six to start the game is always a nice start to the game. Thank you for that Devin McCourty.

But other than that, the Patriots defense didn’t look all too great in this one. Missed assignments didn’t help the cause. Russell Wilson basically had a field day against the Patriots after that early miscue.

You let Russell Wilson throw five touchdown passes against supposedly the best secondary in football? That shouldn’t happen! Credit to Wilson, and we’ll get to him in a bit. But man, you cannot let some of these catches happen. Stephon Gilmore got beat badly on that DK Metcalf touchdown. That’s the first one Gilmore has given up since 2018. Think about how nuts that is! Plain and simple, the Patriots defense has to better. This wasn’t Miami and you learned that last night.

Cam Newton/Julian Edelman

Everyone has been wondering how the connection between Cam and Jules would be this season. So far, it looks pretty good, especially after last night. The 1 to 11 connection was in full effect. Edelman finished last night with 8 receptions for 179 yards. If this duo continue to gain chemistry, it’s going to look eerily similar to all of those years when Brady threw Edelman the ball a ton.

And I’m going to say it. So Fiesta, eat your heart out and enjoy this moment. I was wrong about Cam. He looks great. The man looks healthy throwing and running the ball. I’m truly excited to have Cam as a Patriot and look forward to seeing what he does for us the rest of this season.

Russell Wilson

21/28 passing for 288 yards and five touchdowns. Russell Wilson is a stud in this league and I won’t hear any differently. He was able to basically do whatever he wanted last night to the Patriots defense. Throw the ball deep? Yep. Scramble out of the pocket to create plays with his legs? Yep. Read the defenses and capitalize on Patriots miscues? Yep again! All the credit in the world goes to Russell Wilson. He can flat out ball and will hopefully get an MVP vote for the first time ever in his career, later this season.

James White

It’d be horrible not to put our condolences in here for James White. White was a late inactive as he found out his dad passed away in a car crash and his mom is in critical condition.

Nothing but love, support, and prayers go out to James White. He’s a guy that does the right thing every single day. Works his butt off, is professional and goes about his business. He truly resembles the Patriot way. I think I speak for all of Pats nation when I say to James White: take your time coming back. Go be with your family and do what you have to do. The Patriots will be here for you when you’re ready to come back.

In Conclusion

As much as the loss hurts, it’s a stepping stone. The Patriots proved they are still a very good football team in the NFL. You were one play away from beating one of the premier teams in the NFC on the road. That says a lot. Shake it off and get ready for the Las Vegas Raiders in week three. You need that game too. Cause guess what? Guess where the Patriots get to go in week four? Arrowhead Stadium. But let’s worry about that in two weeks. Take care of business on Sunday afternoon.
