One month in, who are the front runners in NHL awards?
We are one month into the season and we have some surprise teams playing well like the Anaheim Ducks who are currently 1st in the Pacific division. The Florida Panthers is also another somewhat surprising team to others(not me) because they are currently 1st in the Atlantic. It is surprising since they have had a coaching change one month into a season and you never know how teams will react.
Hart Memorial Trophy : Leon Draisaitl
This NHL award is given to the most valuable player
What? Not Connor McDavid? Only one player in the NHL is playing than McDavid and thats his teammate Leon Draisaitl. They both have already put up insane numbers, but since Draisaitl has more points, going to go with him for now. At the end of the year, he may not have more points than McDavid, but as of right now, it’s got to be Draisaitl. After 15 games into the season, he has 17 goals, 16 assists to make that 33 points. Averaging out two points per game.
James Norris Memorial Trophy : Roman Josi
This NHL award is given to the best defenseman
Homer pick? I think not! Roman Josi is looking to win his 2nd award and he is on a great pace for it this season. He currently tied with Adam Fox in points with 16(6 goals, 10 assists). I honestly think that Jose is the most valuable defenseman to their team in the NHL. If he goes, than the team flourishes, but if he struggles, than usually the team doesn’t excel. As of right now, I think it is a two man race between them too.
Vezina Trophy: Jack Campbell
This award is given to the best goalie
There are a few goalies you could pick from here, but I’m going with Jack Campbell. He has played almost every game and he leads the NHL in Ga/G(goals against average a game) with 1.68. He is tied 1st in save percentage as well with a .943. Reimer is another consideration for the award, but it depends on how the Sharks finish the season because more than likely, the Leafs will make the playoffs.
Calder Memorial Trophy: Lucas Raymond
This NHL award is given to best player in his first year of play
Prior to the beginning of the season, not a lot of people if any had Raymond winning the award. After 18 games into the season, he leads all rookies in points and goals. He currently has 7 goals, 11 assists to make it 18 points, which comes out to averaging a point per game. Raymond has already scored a hat trick and 4 point game this season and its only been 18 games. His teammate Moritz Seider is also in the running for the award as well.
Selke Trophy: Aleksander Barkov

After winning the award last season, Barkov is off to another strong start this season. He is currently winning 52% of his face-offs and is also leading the NHL in takeaways(14). Barkov elated his defensive game this past season and he continues to evaluated it this season. You already know Patrice Bergeron is hunting for his fifth award and it up there in the running with him. I would love to see Bergeron win it to have the most Selke’s ever, but he may not get it again, but he is having a good start to the season.
