Nuggets-Celtics Matchup Preview

The Boston Celtics made a BIG statement on Wednesday night. They came away with a 112-93 victory at home against the Miami Heat. However, the road doesn’t get any easier for the Celtics tonight. Why you may ask? Well, Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets are coming to town. But before the game is actually played tonight, let’s take a look at a few keys to this big time tilt.

Nikola Jokic

Jokic is a one man wrecking crew. The Nuggets center was an All-Star for the first time last season and is looking for his second nod this season. He is averaging a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds a game. But don’t be fooled, the big man can pass too, as he averages six assists per game. Stopping Jokic is going to be very difficult for this Celtics team. This might be a game where Robert Williams is called upon to play more and be physical with Jokic. You aren’t going to stop him entirely. But, if you can keep him to 15-20 points and somehow keep him off the glass, then you’re in good shape. Don’t let Jokic be the one to beat you, plain and simple.

The Kemba Walker Revenge Game

We all remember this play. This was the play that had Kemba Walker out for one game. Granted, he could have been potentially paralyzed had he hit Semi Ojeleye much harder than this. Thank goodness Kemba recovered quickly from this. But tonight, this should be a game of revenge for Kemba Walker. Yes, I know Walker is a pretty even-keeled guy. But this was a team the Celtics could have EASILY beaten had Walker finished out the game. It’s a home game and Kemba has thrived in the T.D. Garden so far this season. Fans might want to get a ticket (already got mine!) to see Walker put on a show tonight!

Marcus Smart’s Status

This is a very encouraging sign for Celtics fans. Marcus Smart has been upgraded to questionable after missing Wednesday night’s game against the Miami Heat with an abdomen contusion. There’s no question that Smart is the heart and soul of this team. When he’s out there, he brings a confidence and energy about him that spreads through to the rest of his teammates. Obviously if Smart doesn’t play tonight, it’s a loss. But, I’d rather him be 100% for Monday against Cleveland and Wednesday in Indiana.

In Conclusion

This game is going to be one of the better ones on the weekend slate. Both teams are currently in 2nd place in their respective conference. These teams have something to prove going forward for the rest of the season. Let’s just sit back, relax, and enjoy the game. As always, let’s go Celtics!
