NFL Wild Card Predictions
We are quickly approaching week 13 of the NFL season. With only five more weeks before the playoffs, it’s time to look at which teams are primed to grab the final playoff spots in both the AFC and NFC.
AFC in contention: Tennesse, Cincinnati, Baltimore, Indianapolis,
5 Seed: Los Angeles Chargers – It seems impossible for the Chargers to miss the playoffs at this point. Phillip Rivers is playing great once again, and defensive stud Joey Bosa just came back to provide some major pass rush. At 8-3, the Chargers are two games ahead any team in wild card contention. It is no guarantee they hold this lead considering they have some pretty tough games remaining (@PIT, @KC, vs.BAL, @DEN), but with a solid defense and competent offense, I doubt Los Angeles chokes this lead.
6 Seed: Denver Broncos – At 5-6 the Denver Broncos are currently on the outside looking in. I don’t think that sticks for long. Beyond a week 17 matchup with the Chargers (in which LA may sit players if they have a spot locked up), Denver has to play @CIN, @SF, vs. CLE, and @OAK. I really don’t see much of a challenge there.
It is going to end up being a dog fight between Baltimore and Denver for the last spot, but at this point in time you have to go with Denver. Lamar Jackson will be a good quarterback, but right now I’d rather have Case Keenum throwing the ball. That’s where I think Denver has the edge along with their cake-walk of a schedule.
NFC in contention: Washington, Carolina, Philadelphia, Green Bay
5 Seed: Minnesota Vikings – The Vikings have a tough matchup this week as they travel tt Gilette Stadium to take on the Patriots, but they still have a shot to win. They have a competent QB, a defense that has been solid after a rocky start to the year, and offensive weapons such as Adam Thielen that will be able to propel them into the postseason.
6 Seed: Seattle Seahawks – No one expected the Seahawks to be this good, but here they are. Similar to Denver, Seattle has a pretty easy schedule to end the year. They have two huge games against the Vikings and Chiefs, but their other three opponents are the 49ers (twice) and Cardinals. Chalk those up as three wins and the Seahawks will be 9-7. If they are able to pull out a win vs. Kirk Cousins and co., Seattle will glide into the playoffs.
