Breaking News: New England Advances to MLS Cup Playoffs!
If you are yet to follow the New England Revolution, its time to jump on board while you still can. The New England Revolution clinched a playoff berth last night for the Audi 2021 MLS Cup Playoffs after beating the Chicago Fire.
During this whole entire season, the New England Revolution have stayed really hot and there are no signs of them slowing down. Last night, goals from Henry Kessler, Teal Bunbury and Carles Gil helped the Revolution hold off an intense Chicago Fire FC in the second-half. Gaining all three points on the road and hence clinching a playoff spot in the 2021 MLS Cup playoffs.
Here are some of the highlights from last night’s action:
What Does the Playoff Schedule Look Like?
The MLS announced back on September 9th what the playoff schedule would look like. At the end of the regular MLS Season, which would be on November 7th this year, the top seven teams from each conference, Western and Eastern will battle it out in the 2021 Audi MLS Playoffs.
The playoffs will consist of single-elimination matches, which will be hosted by the higher seeded team and will follow a straight bracket format all the way through MLS Cup final which will be on December 11th. Here’s what that bracket would look like:

There are a few changes to note for this years’ playoff rounds. See below:
- There is no longer an away goal tiebreaker.
- 6 winners, 3 from each conference will advance to the conference semi-finals.
- If a match is tied after 90-minutes of regulation time. Then, two 15-minute periods will be played. Should it stay tied after them, then sudden death penalty kicks will be taken until a winner is determined.

The leadership of Bruce Arena and the acquisitions made during the offseason have truly shaped this team to be what they are today. Now, the New England Revolution playoff series is here and its time to finish this season strong.
