New England Patriots: WR N’Keal Harry had a great week of camp

-New England Patriots wide receiver N’Keal Harry is surprising many people throughout the first week of training camp. The former first-round draft pick from Arizona has displayed all sorts of positive features and developments during training camp. Positive upward trends from Harry that fans haven’t seen much of since he’s been in the NFL.

Harry’s agent already has made requests for a trade. He’s since been one of the best receivers throughout camp thus far. He surprised many of the fans and people around Foxborough with a couple of impressive catches that erupted the crowd during the open practice at Gillette Stadium.

Harry even prompted some compliments from quarterback Cam Newton about his potential on this Patriots team.

“He’s still not scratching the surface. He’s believing it, and you guys are seeing it, which is good for his confidence. But nevertheless he’s taking the initiative and he’s more comfortable. I think before the play is even called, he understands the personnel groupings, he understands what Josh is trying to do to him and for him — and with him. And I think that’s important. Once he understands that piece, that’s when the game can kind of slow down for him and it just becomes running a great route and catching the football.” – Cam Newton, via Darren Hartwell of NBC Sports Boston

At the conclusion of the first week of training camp where he showcased himself as being one of the best receivers there, it’s hard to believe that Harry doesn’t have a more positive perspective of being in New England following his agent’s attempted trade request. When asked about his future with the New England Patriots, Harry was honest in his response.

“Right now I’m not really worried about anything trade wise. I’m focused on how to be the best version of myself on the field, going out there and working hard and proving it everyday. Everything’s been very normal. I’m focused on helping this team win and doing whatever I can to be the best version of myself. I’m a Patriot right now and I’m very okay with being a Patriot.” – N’Keal Harry, via The Next Pats Podcast

Considering the upgraded offensive weaponry this offseason. Harry is looking at being the fourth wide receiver on the Patriots depth chart, even with a great first week of camp. Harry will be behind new receivers Kendrick Bourne and Nelson Agholor. As well as Jakobi Meyers, who’s been in various receiver sets with the first team throughout camp.

Not to mention no matter who is under center this season! The passing attack will build around New England’s two big free agent acquisitions in tight ends, Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith. Bill Belichick and the Patriots have been successful in the past with running various tight end sets on offense. Their favorites have been the 12, 13, 22, or even 23 personnel packages.

It’s fair to assume that Harry understands the direction the Patriots are going in this season. Considering their offseason signings and that’s what triggered a public trade request. In two years with the Patriots, Harry, the former first-round draft choice, has only 45 receptions for 414 yards and four touchdowns.

As NBC Sports Boston’s Patriots reporter, Phil Perry, mentioned it’s going to be hard to keep a wide receiver on the roster that is low on the depth chart and doesn’t offer any value on special teams. As odd as it may sound, Harry doesn’t have much else to offer the Patriots. It might be time for the Pats to move on and try and get something in return for Harry.

Nevertheless, N’Keal Harry is showing up to camp everyday for the Patriots. He has a great attitude and is impressing many people with his positive production throughout camp thus far. He is also posting many photos to his social media. It profiles with subliminal captions that one would only assume that he’s referring to being with the New England Patriots and looking forward to this season.
