It’s been another rough season for the Buffalo Sabres but last night was a feel good story. Not only did they beat the New York Islanders by a final score of 4-2, but their goalie played in his first NHL game and also got his first NHL win. Michael Houser is 28 years old and has played the majority of his career in the ECHL. He’s been with the Sabres either on the taxi squad or backing up. With the injuries to Linus Ullmark, Carter Hutton and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, and Dustin Tokarski leaving the team for a family matter, it was Houser’s time to start and he performed really well.
It’s a feel good story because not only is he a journeyman, but Houser was born with bilateral clubbed feet and he needed multiple surgeries. In a year that has been full of negativity for this franchise, it was definitely a feel good moment for not only Houser, but for the team as well. It made it more special that Buffalo was trailing the Islanders 2-0 at one point and they haven’t beaten them before last night.

Houser and the Sabres will look to beat the Islanders once again tonight as Buffalo will play their last home game of the season and Houser will be starting once again.
