Every athlete dreads this day. It’s like that old quote from “Moneyball” when Billy Beane talks to the scouts. “Some of us are told at 18, some of us are told at 40, but at some point we’re all told.” (I’m paraphrasing here, cut me a break!) Retirement. It means that you’re done with a career you’ve know for so long. Today, it was Michael Bennett’s turn to call it quits. Bennett came out on Instagram today to announce his retirement. All of the big NFL insider names also had the scoop on it.

Before we say goodbye to Michael Bennett for good, let’s take a look back at his career.
Three Pro Bowls
Michael Bennett had an incredible stretch from 2015-2017. He was everywhere on the field. Bennett had 10 sacks during the 2015 season and he started every game that same year. He also started all 16 games during the 2017 season, totaling up 8.5 sacks as well. In 2016, he only played in 11 games. But he was still productive, hence the three straight Super Bowl appearances. From 2015-2017, there weren’t too many guys in their position better than Bennett.
The Super Bowl Ring
That 2013 Seahawks team was unreal. They let Peyton Manning have it during that Super Bowl. Bennett was able to cash in on a stellar season with a Super Bowl ring to top it off. For what it’s worth, Bennett had 8.5 sacks that season as well.
His VERY Short Pats Stint
Remember when Michael Bennett was a Patriot? If you don’t, it’s okay. He only played in six games for the Pats during the 2019 season before he was traded to the Cowboys in October. It’s disappointing considering Bennett’s talent could have been very impactful for that Patriots defense.
In Conclusion
Congratulations to Michael Bennett for a heck of a career. He did things his way, for better or worse. The man ended up winning a Super Bowl, so the Bennett brothers have two total rings. Now, he can do whatever he pleases and spend more time with Martellus.
