Lock, Fade And Stay Away CFB (9/12/2020)

Ah it is the smell of football season, don’t you love the smell of it? Well you should now because every Saturday I will be dropping a Lock, Fade and Stay Away piece going over who I like for College Football for that day. Also on Sunday’s I will be dropping the same piece for the NFL games. Don’t you worry though my regular lock, fade, and stay away will still be out for that day. Don’t forget to listen to our podcast on Sound Cloud (@thechasers). Also make sure you follow us on twitter (@thechasers617) to get all of my lock(s), and all of Fiesta’s as well. With that being said here are my lock(s) for College Football today, my favorite to fade, and my bet to stay away from today.

Lock(s):

Iowa State -11.5 (1.1u/1u)

I think Brock Purdy is one of the best quarterbacks in all of college football, and I am very high on Iowa State this season as well. There are some questions about their backfield, but they had that problem a season ago and they looked pretty good. The Cyclones kick off the season against UL-Lafayette who is a great football team. With this line only being 11.5 I am a little nervous the the Ragin’ Cajuns could pull off the upset here. Unfortunately for Ragin’ Cajuns fans that will not be the case today. I love the Cyclones and I will be riding with them a lot this season. This will be a 31-17 final score type of game, as I don’t see UL-Lafayette finding a way to stop Purdy. Lock in Iowa State -11.5 today as I am risking 1.1 units to make 1 unit.

Appalachian State -17 (1.15u/1u)

Appalachian State was a workhorse last season, and I can’t wait to see what they show me this season. The Mountaineers finished 13-1 a season ago, and they dominated the Sun Belt Conference. Last year when these two teams played it was Appalachian State coming out on top 56-41 in their week two matchup. The Mountaineers are bringing back a lot of key pieces from a season ago back from last year. I also see them covering the spread today comfortably as I believe they are a lot better than Charlotte. With that being said lock in Appalachian State -17 as I am risking 1.15 units to make 1 unit.

Fade:

Army -22

Army kicked off their 2020 campaign with a dominant 42-0 win over Middle Tennessee State. I liked Army at -3.5 last week, but this week as they are 22 point favorites over Louisiana Monroe I am very hesitant. I do think they will come out on top today that is without a question. My issue is I don’t think they win by more than three scores again this week. Christian Anderson looked very good in week one, does he keep up with that pace all season though is the question? If Army was a 10-14 point favorite I would consider it. Since they are not I am fading Army -22.

Stay Away:

Over 61 (Clemson vs Wake Forest)

This matchup a season ago was highly talked about because of how good Wake Forest was in the ACC at the time. The Demon Deacons disappointed last season when these two teams played. Trevor Lawrence has routed Wake Forest his entire career and they are going to do it again today as well. The issue is I don’t see Wake Forest scoring a touchdown today. They haven’t in the last two meetings these two have had. Clemson is a heavy favorite as they rightfully should be, but for Wake Forest in order for this over to hit they have to either score at least 10 points; or they have to let Clemson cover the over on their own. Either could happen, but with the way the trend has looked recently I am staying away from the over in this one.
