Browns Young Future Promising Despite 2021 Ups and Downs
If you ask most Browns fans they will probably tell you that this season so far has not turned out as they expected. Coming off their first playoff win of this millennium a 6-6 start with this roster has been far from where we thought we would be to begin December. However, I am here to tell you why the overall outlook of this organization is still better than in decades. Let’s look at some budding young stars that make the Browns’ future bright.
Greg Newsome II CB (21 Years Old)
Newsome has been as advertised this season, he is an incredibly sticking corner, he sticks to his receiver in man coverage while mirroring them perfectly. So far this season the rookie has only allowed 1 touchdown reception according to PFF. Newsome’s ability to win 1 on 1 against his receiver, along with teammate Denzel Ward takes a lot of pressure off Joe Woods. Newsome is so fluid as a runner and can flip his hips and change direction on a dime. His instincts, football IQ, and the way he plays the receiver’s hands/the ball to break up passes are great. He needs to clean up his tackling and be more consistent in that area but he already has the early signs of being a lockdown corner.

There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe the start of JOK’s career with the Browns. Following the Sunday Night Football game against the Ravens PFF had JOK as the highest-graded rookie defender in the class. JOK looks like he is playing at a different speed than others at times, even when he makes a mistake his world-class quickness makes up for it. He ran across the field from the opposite hash to stop Lamar Jackson for a one-yard gain. JOK has 36 total tackles with 27 stop tackles (PFF), with a stop tackle being one that results in a play that is negative for the offense. His skill and talent have the Browns looking at a budding superstar in their LB corps.
Donovan Peoples-Jones WR (22 Years Old)

If you follow me on social media you would know that I have been pounding the table for Peoples-Jones all summer. His rare characteristics of size and speed make him a special athlete and can lead to mismatch nightmares for defenses. This year DPJ has been plagued by a couple of nagging injuries which has held him back at times. But if you take a look at games like the Cardinals, where he outmuscled defenders on a hail mary and ran a guy over on another touchdown, you can see what is so exciting about this young player. According to PFF DPJ has had 13 targets considered contested catch opportunities and he has caught 12 of those targets. These budding young stars are part of why the future in Cleveland is so bright.
