Lamar Odom Speaks Out After Battle With Drug Addiction
In his piece for The Players’ Tribune, Lamar Odom finally speaks out on his life-long struggles and his battle with cocaine addiction. I’ve read this article about 5 times since it was posted this morning, and the quote that stuck with me the most was “what’s done in the dark will come out in the light.” This is something Odom’s grandmother always used to say to him before she passed. When describing what it meant to him, Odom reflected on all of the “sneaky shit” he tried to do and get away with it, and “if it’s not in the public’s light then it’s in God’s light.” I interpreted that as if you are going to do something you shouldn’t be and continue to do it, it’ll eventually catch up with you. This is exactly what happened to Odom. Everyone remembers the incident from 2015 when he was hospitalized after being found unconscious at a brothel in Nevada. After all of the years of doing cocaine, partying, and sleeping with other women outside of his marriage, that moment in Nevada was when it all came out in the light for him. Luckily, being hospitalized and seeing all of his loved ones around him made him finally get himself some help.
Odom is currently sober, but he is still battling addiction every day he says. But what he does know now is that he can’t continue to act the way he did if he wants to be there for his children. Lamar Odom’s situation should be a lesson for anyone who is battling with drug addiction. You can read it here.
