Kadri Receives Suspension

Nazem Kadri of the Tornoto Maple Leafs was just handed a three game suspension for delivering a check to Boston Bruins forward Tommy Wingels. Kadri seemed to catch Wingels in an awkward position and the department of player safety deemed that Kadri had enough time to stop and adjust his check before hitting Wingels.

Three games is a hefty suspension but Kadri has a history of misbehaving and has recevied three prior suspensions. Kadri was ejected for this hit and rightfully so as he clearly charged and boarded a vulnerable Wingels. Wingels will be out for at least tomorrow night but luckily the Bruins have the depth to fill in for him. Rookie Ryan Donato or veteran Brian Gionta are his likely replacements.

Kadri is an important player for the Leafs and this three game suspension will largely affect Toronto’s Stanley Cup dreams. After a blowout loss in game one the Leafs needed Kadri to help even this series but now they’ll have to find another source of scoring and hope they can hold off a sweep from the Bruins.

The Bruins steamrolled through the Leafs en route to a 5-1 victory. The Bruins managed to agitate many of Toronto’s forwards the whole night and the Leafs ultimately took six penalties on the night. The Bruins showed up to play and they have a great chance to knock the Leafs out early with one of their best players on the shelf. The emotions were high last game and I’m sure the physical play will pick up in this series.

The Bruins and Maple Leafs play game two in Boston Saturday Night at 8:00.
