Julian Edelman Signs Extension With The Patriots
This week just keeps getting better and better for Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman. The other day, he graduated from Kent State University. Now today, he is staying with the Patriots just a little bit longer. Edelman has signed a two year extension with the Patriots.
WR Julian Edelman has signed a two-year extension with the Patriots (through 2021), as first reported by @MikeGarafolo. The extension includes an $8 million signing bonus and $12 million guaranteed, per a source.

This is obviously big for the Patriots for a few different reasons.
It Solidifies Their Number 1 Receiver
We all know that Tom Brady loves Julian Edelman. Especially now with Gronk retired, Brady will lean on Edelman more in the 2019 season than any other past season. “Minitron” has proven to be as dependable as they come, especially after his MVP performance in Super Bowl LIII. Having Edelman in the fold through 2021 provides some comfort for the Patriots wide receiving core.
The Logistical Numbers Are Fair For Both Sides
A lot of wide receivers are demanding these big money contracts. Go look at Antonio Brown, Odell Beckham Jr., etc., they wanted the big bucks. Edelman has not been one to complain about money, so this is excellent for him. The Patriots are spending 8 million for a signing bonus and 12 million guaranteed. That is very fair, but also not breaking the bank. Overall, a HUGE win for both sides.
In Conclusion
It is nice to see that Edelman will continue to be a Patriot for at least 3 more seasons. Will his time come to an end after that? Quite possibly. So for now, let’s continue to enjoy watching the #12 to #11 connection while we still can. This man has always put his body on the line, and does whatever it takes to help the Patriots win Super Bowls. The man deserved to be paid and he is getting his fair share now.
