Jimmy Butler to the 76ers: What does it Mean?

Jimmy Butler was just traded to the Philadelphia 76ers along with Justin Patton for Dario Saric, Robert Covington, and a 2022 second-round pick. This deal gives Philly some more star power while at the same time weakening their front court. Their centers and power forwards consist of Joel Embiid, Amir Johnson, Mike Muscala, and the newly acquired Justin Patton. Embiid is great, but after him they aren’t looking too hot. Nonetheless, a lineup featuring Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, and Jimmy Butler is scary as hell.

Should the Celtics/Raptors/Bucks be Concerned?

The easy answer is yes. Jimmy Butler is a tremendous player who should be on any team’s radar that he is going up against. There is also a good chance that he goes in there and doesn’t fit in well with Simmons and that system. Butler is a player who demands the ball in his hands to run the offense. With Simmons on the floor, that won’t be so easy with Simmons being god awful at shooting. As for the Celtics, Saric was one of the only players that did really well against them in the playoffs last season. His departure could be a positive as they have a plethora of wing defenders that could go to work on Jimmy Butler. I feel as if the Raptors and Bucks might be nearly evenly matched with the 76ers now and that could lead to some very exciting playoff series. The answer to if the teams should be concerned is a lame one but it’s simply that we have to wait and find out. Butler could really click and make this team unstoppable. Or Butler could be a locker room cancer and be the demise of the team. Nonetheless, the drama in the Eastern Conference is going to be exciting to watch all season.
