I was wrong about the Boston Celtics!
The Celtics have been enjoying quite the hot streak since the new year began. They are one of the scariest teams in the NBA right now. A few months into the season, they were below .500. Now? It seems like they simply can’t lose. I’m here today to admit I was wrong about the Boston Celtics and here are the reasons why.
The Boston Celtics Have a Good Coach in Ime Udoka
This Celtics team had a new voice in the locker room this season with Ime Udoka coming into town. We were so used to Brad Stevens that it seemed like a change was needed to be made for the 2021-2022 season. I won’t say that I was one of those fans that wanted Udoka out after the Celtics started off so poorly. But it definitely was a concern. Not anymore! Udoka has the Celtics fully bought into his system of playing hard-nosed defense. You see it in all of the numbers. I’m personally excited for the future with Udoka as the Celtics head coach.
Marcus Smart
I was wrong about Marcus Smart. When the Celtics signed him to a four year extension, they knew what they were doing! Smart has established a good role for himself with the Celtics offensively, as a facilitator. He still has his moments where we as fans get nervous with his shot selection. But he still does everything he needs to on defense, and can get hot shooting every now and again. But overall, Smart knows his role now which is a great sign for the Celtics going forward.
The Bench Guys Stepping Up!
The Boston Celtics have a lot of their bench players stepping up. Grant Williams has become a much better shooter from the outside. Payton Pritchard is seeing the minutes that he should’ve been getting all season long. Daniel Theis is finding his role as a backup big man. These guys are taking the load off of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown to have to do it all offensively. If the bench guys continue this production, then the Celtics will be even more of a dangerous team come playoff team.
In Conclusion
I was wrong Celtics fans and I am sorry. I thought the Celtics would be like they were the past few years: consistently inconsistent. But they’ve proven me and others to be very, very wrong. Now? They are the four seed in the East and can maybe slide into the two seed if a few things fall their way. However, it is nice to watch good Celtics basketball again. So if I had to be wrong to make it happen, then so be it!
