Hot Stove Round Up: Biggest Rumors of the MLB Trade Deadline

The MLB Trade Deadline is coming up on Friday. The Hot Stove is absolutely cooking, from high profile names to no names, the 2021 Trade Deadline is shaping up to be a memorable one!

Let us dive into some of the biggest rumors of this trade deadline.

Will the Padres Keep Wheeling and Dealing before the Trade Deadline ends?

One of the biggest splashes of the trade deadline thus far has been the San Diego Padres acquiring Adam Frazier. The all-star from the Pirates will hope to help an already powerful offense.

The question is, though, are they done? The answer to that is absolutely not. You can never count out GM AJ Preller, who has already had a fantastic offseason, acquiring Yu Darvish and Blake Snell. The mastermind isn’t done, as rumors swirl that they could be going after another big-name pitcher.

Jon Morosi of MLB Network is saying the Padres and Dodgers are in a battle for SP Jose Berrios from Minnesota.

Morosi has also stated that the Padres are in on Rangers outfielder Joey Gallo. So, regardless of what happens before the deadline Friday, the Padres are not done yet.

To Buy or to Sell… The Question Looming over the New York Yankees at the Trade Deadline

There is no question that the biggest disappointment of 2021 so far is the New York Yankees. Plagued by injuries, bad pitching, and bad managing, they are underperforming so far this season. So, it is no surprise that the fans want the team to sell.

It is also no surprise that the owner, Hal Steinbrenner, is all in.

Jon Morosi has reported that the New York Yankees are in on Joey Gallo, the power-hitting outfielder from the Rangers. The team has also been connected to Rockies stud Trevor Story along with Nationals ace Max Scherzer.

It’s not very shocking that the Yankees are knee-deep in trade rumors. But, being 9-plus games out of first makes it hard to justify them going all-in on a rental.

What will Seattle do at the MLB Trade Deadline?

One of the most shocking teams of the second half so far is the Seattle Mariners, who are currently sitting one game out of a wild card spot. A team that is hot at the right time sits with a few questions. Do they go all in, or do they just try to do enough to make a push?

Well, they already started as they traded a clubhouse favorite and current stud Kendall Graveman to their rival Houston Astros. Boy did that cause some backlash in the clubhouse.

They then traded for Pittsburgh’s starter Tyler Anderson. Dipoto most likely isn’t done yet, so expect more from the M’s in the coming days.

One of the hottest rumors that are circulating in Seattle is Whit Merrifield. Multiple reports have the Mariners pushing hard for Kansas City’s stud player. But, the question remains: can they pull the trigger?

Finally, How far will the Red Sox Go at the MLB Trade Deadline?

One of the more intriguing deadline teams will be the Boston Red Sox. We all know Chaim Bloom’s motive and what he came in for. In no way, though, did anyone think the Red Sox would be this good this early on in the process.

So, that leaves Bloom with a lingering question. How far will he go to improve the team for the stretch run?

Well, don’t expect too much. You’ll see some rentals come in, but nothing that will blow up the farm again. There is nothing wrong with that either. Bloom will do what he can to make the team better this year, while also looking to the future.

The biggest name linked to the Sox? Anthony Rizzo. Rizzo is a free agent after the season, so it won’t cost much to bring home the guy who was drafted by the Sox in the first place. It would also majorly boost one of the biggest flaws of the Sox: first base.

Conclusion…

These are just some of the big trade rumors out there. There are so many that it’s impossible to cover them all. One thing is for sure though, this is going to be one of the wilder trade deadlines in recent years, and it will be interesting to see who goes and who stays.

Traded Deadline is at 4 pm on Friday. Stay tuned!
