Future Picks: Big Ten Conference
The Big Ten Conference is set to be one of the more exciting conferences in all of college basketball this season. There is no clear cut favorite, and I think up to four teams could win the Big Ten Conference Title. Those four teams in no particular order are Iowa, Michigan State, Illinois, and Wisconsin. Any of those four teams in my honest opinion has a shot at winning the Big Ten title. With that being said lets look at the odds for the Big Ten Title winner, and let me show you who I like in the Big Ten this season.
The Odds:
Iowa +265
Wisconsin +350
Illinois +355
Michigan State +360
Ohio State +1000
Michigan +1100
Indiana +2000
Purdue +3000
Maryland +5000
Minnesota +30000
Penn State +30000
Nebraska +50000
Northwestern +50000
Winner:
Wisconsin +350
The Wisconsin Badgers are who I have my money on to win the Big Ten title. D’Mitrik Trice has been stellar in his career at Wisconsin and now that he is entering his senior season look for him to want to make a big impact on his way out. The Badgers are very upper classman heavy in their starting five having Trice to go along with Brad Davison in the starting back court. Then in the front court you have Aleem Ford, Nate Reuvers, and Micah Potter. All five of their starters are seniors this season, and they will look to end their time at Wisconsin on the right foot.
Wisconsin also has a bunch of freshman that are going to come off their bench such as Johnny Davis, Ben Carlson, Lorne Bowman, Steven Crowl, and Jordan Davis. Ben Carlson is a four star recruit that I think will make the most impact out of these five in their freshman campaigns. The Badgers are going to need everybody to contribute to be able to take home the Big Ten crown. Watch out for the Badgers as they are my winner that I am taking.
Keep An Eye Out On:
Michigan State +360
The Michigan State Spartans are my team to watch out for. Since they lost Cassius Winston people are sleeping on the Spartans for this upcoming season. They have some talent still and will look to get some big time contributions this year from that talent. Their starting five looks like it’ll be sophomore Rocket Watts and senior Joshua Langford starting in the back court. To go along with Aaron Henry, Joey Hauser (transfer from Marquette) and Marcus Bingham starting in the front court.
The one issue for me for the Spartans and this is the main reason why I didn’t take them to win the Big Ten title is who is going to contribute on their bench. They bring in two 4 star recruits in Mady Sissoko (40th in ESPN’s Top 100) and AJ Hoggard (64th in ESPN’s Top 100) to help contribute. Other than those two freshman I don’t know how good Gabe Brown and Malik Hall will be for the Spartans. I think Michigan State is going to be a top two team in the conference, but I see their bench disappointing them at times this year in key moments.
Predictions:
1.) Wisconsin
2.) Michigan State
3.) Illinois
4.) Iowa
5.) Indiana
6.) Purdue
7.) Ohio State
8.) Michigan
9.) Rutgers
10.) Minnesota
11.) Penn State
12.) Maryland
13.) Nebraska
14.) Northwestern
