Florida news: alligator and a banana tree
Have you ever listened to a news broadcast and heard the headline “Florida man/woman…”? Either our eyes roll or our curiosity is intrigued and we can’t help from wondering what the story is now. I think it’s safe to agree that most of the stories based out of Florida are notorious for being laughable. Enjoy reading these stories that I stumbled upon this week.
Alligator approaches paddleboarder:
Over labor day weekend, a Floridian woman was enjoying a day of paddle-boarding when she had an encounter with an alligator. A two-minute video was posted to her Facebook page and was then shared by Fox 35. Shocked and surprised, the woman recorded the alligator swimming about a foot away from her with no fear. To avoid a bite, the woman attempts to push the alligator away with her paddle and, in return, receives a loud hiss from the reptile. Towards the end of the video, the alligator returns and both of them part ways. It ends with the woman claiming that “someone’s been feeding that ‘gator- makes them very dangerous”. Dangerous is an understatement.
Man fills pothole with a banana tree:
In another interesting and less frightening story, a Floridian man was “fed up with road conditions”. The solution: fill it with a banana tree. That’s one way to save the planet. Consequently, the act received some quizzical feedback from local commuters. In a video-report conducted by Wink-TV, commuter John Hulker said “I pulled up and I questioned myself; is that really a tree in the middle of a road?”. According to Raymond, since he owns a business near the private-owned road, he attempted to fill the hole on multiple occasions (with cement), but to no avail. Unfortunately, there is another pothole right next to the tree that is now unavoidable.

Earlier in the week, it was reported by Fox 35 that a SWAT team faced a standoff outside of a man’s home. The man was armed and standing on the roof of his house. Shortly after their arrival, a woman in a golf-cart drove by the scene and refused to leave. The woman was naked and was eventually arrested. In another story, a Florida woman admitted to drinking too much wine before making a run to Target. She crashed into another car parked in the lot. According to another report made by Fox 35, “investigators said that she landed in the ditch of a retention pond”. Wow.
