Final Grades For The 2019 Boston Celtics

Aron Baynes- In his 2nd season with Boston, Baynes played his ass off whenever he was on the floor. However, he had a hard time staying on the floor as he missed 30 games. C+

Jaylen Brown- After a slow start, Brown was demoted to a 6th man role. Brown did a good job in his new role as he had a strong 2nd half of the season. B

Gordon Hayward- Similar to Brown, Hayward had a slow start and was sent to the bench. While he had his moments, Hayward looked lost this season as he continues to rehab from that gruesome injury. D+

Al Horford- While he had another impressive statistical season, Horford should have taken on more of a leadership role. Horford is a naturally laid back guy, but this team could have used more “Angry Al”. B

Kyrie Irving- In terms of just pure stats, it was an impressive year. However, everything else was an utter failure from Kyrie Irving. He failed in the postseason and he failed as a leader. And now he’s probably played his last game in Boston. D+

Marcus Morris- Marcus Morris was arguably the Celtics best player the 1st month of the season when things were going bad. He earned a starting spot and kept that the rest of season. However, he continued to settle for too many 3s near the end of the season. B+

Semi Ojeleye- Ojeleye didn’t really do anything different from his rookie season. Had his moments but was clearly the 11th man in the rotation. C

Terry Rozier- After having a breakout postseason, Rozier took a serious step back. He couldn’t adjust to taking a smaller role and it caused him to be very unreliable on the 2nd unit behind Kyrie. D-

Marcus Smart- Like Baynes, Smart was one of the few Celtics that never took a play off. He kept up his incredible defense and actually had his best offensive season as well. Honestly, he probably had the best season out of anyone. A-

Jayson Tatum- No other player may have had more hype than Tatum after coming off of his brilliant postseason. However, like many Celtics, Tatum took a step back. Settled way too much, isolated way too much, and didn’t play good defense. C-

Daniel Theis-Theis had his moments but didn’t do anything special and didn’t make an impact in the postseason. C

Brad Wanamaker- The 29-year-old rookie could never crack the regular rotation. Incomplete.

Robert Williams III- Showed he can be an elite shot-blocker, but Williams is extremely raw on offense. C-

Guerschon Yabusele- Yabu may be destined to be a bench-warmer. D

Brad Stevens-We know Brad Stevens can coach, but it was clear that Brad could not get these guys to sacrifice for one another. He’s great at growing young players, but now he needs to get them to play well with one another. D+

Danny Ainge- This was the dream team that Danny formed and they fell flat on their face. Ainge should have realized at the trade deadline that these pieces don’t mix. Now the Celtics have more questions than answers. D
