FA Cup Fifth Round is Here!

The world’s oldest national football competition is back in full action! The FA Cup is now in its 5th round and there is a lot of intriguing action to follow.

I will be sharing with you the must-watch games of the week for this 5th round prior to the action, as well as some score predictions!

Tuesday’s Match: Manchester United vs. West Ham United.

While Burnley and Bournemouth will be going to head-to-head, and Bournemouth doesn’t have a head coach yet. The real must-watch match for Tuesday’s action is really between United and West Ham. Wonder why? Allow me to explain.

For starters, Jesse Lingard goes to West Ham on loan from Manchester United and goes bananas on his debut!

Lingard delivered 2 goals for West Ham on a team with arguably one of the best goalies in the Premier League. So that should be electrifying to see Jesse go against his former team.

Secondly, the 19-year old sensation, Amad Diallo appears to be set to make his debut with Manchester United and this is one that fans have been waiting for. The transfer from Atalanta has been a huge promise to come for United and could be a game changer in the right-wing where United truly need a game maker.

So what are my predictions for day one of the 5th round? Here we go:

  • Burnley vs. Bournemouth: 2-1 Burnley.
  • Manchester United vs. West Ham: 3-1 United.

Now onto a very packed day 2! Let’s get to it.

Day 2 Action of the FA CUP – MUST WATCH MATCHES!!!

Swansea vs. Manchester City.

While many would not consider this a big match, there are some that do and should in all honesty. There is a lot of history between these two and the latest connecting to no other than English superstar, Phil Foden. Swansea’s boss, Steve Cooper had a big part to do with who Phil Foden and his talent is these days as he coached him in the U17 England team back in the day.

Another part of this history was the massive comeback by Manchester City to Swansea last year. The comeback was controversial as Sergio Romero’s late winner for the Premier League side should’ve been ruled offsides but the VAR system wasn’t in operation yet at the Liberty Stadium, even though the stadium has capabilities to do so. Expect this game to be intense, my score prediction is a 3-2 win for City.

Everton vs. Tottenham

Just thinking of this match, that song “Let the bodies hit the floor” comes to mind! What a match we are being treated to between these two massive teams.

For Everton, this is a big game! It marks the first time since 1994-1995 season when these two met lastly. On that same exact year, Everton went onto winning the FA Cup but also beat the Hotspurs 4-1 at Elland Road.

For Tottenham, this is an opportunity to get back in pace and fighting chances. Tottenham has looked atrocious as of late and the spanking they received at the hands of Klopp and company should be a reason to deliver a statement in this match.

So who wins this one? I am going to go with Everton. The Toffees are playing sensational football and even though they kicked United in the teeth last weekend, Everton has a big chance at making a deep run in this occasion. Everton wins this one 3-1.

Wolves vs. Southampton

Did you know this will be the 5th time these two teams have met in the FA Cup? Both teams have won twice previously but the last match was won by Southampton 2-0 in 2003 who was en route to the final that year. Meanwhile, Wolves would be looking to reach the FA Cup quarter-final for second time in the last three seasons.

Wolves could win this one but will need to play close attention to the threat presented upfront by Theo Walcott who continues to deliver a great performance for the Saints since his return via loan from Everton. My prediction is that this will be a very close match and a score of 2-1 will tell that same exact story. However, I see Wolves winning this one.

The Remaining Matches!

While the remaining matches aren’t a must-watch in my opinion. They could still represent potential shockers! Here are my predictions for the remaining matches:

  • Sheffield United vs. Bristol City: I am going with Bristol City winning this one. 1-0 Bristol!
  • Leicester City vs. Brighton: Close must-watch match, but not entirely! While Brighton has been a pest to face in the Premier league, I think Brendan Rodgers and company could be in for a treat. Leicester wins 2-1!
  • Barnsley vs. Chelsea: I’d be a fool to bet against a Chelsea that appear to have found themselves again. 3-0 Chelsea victory.
