English Premier League Matchday 3 Predictions

Welcome back to another week and another article giving my predictions on the English Premier League. We got a plethora of matchups to talk about that are taking place this week. With that being said here are my predictions for matchday 3 in the English Premier League.

6-4 Last Week (11-9 Overall)

English Premier League Saturday Slate:

Manchester City vs Arsenal

Manchester City has been a phenomenal team against Arsenal under Pep Guardiola. They are 9-1-0 against the Gunnars in Pep’s time as Manchester City’s manager. Manchester City has also kept a clean sheet against Arsenal in six out of their last seven meetings. This Arsenal team is in shambles right now and getting to face Manchester City next wasn’t the best thing for them. Arteta’s squad needs to show a little life this week, but on the road at Etihad Stadium yeah good luck with that.

Prediction: Manchester City wins 2-0.

Newcastle vs Southampton

Newcastle has had Southampton’s number in their last 16 Premier League matchups at St James’ Park. 12-3-1 record for Newcastle in those 16 Premier League home matchups. Newcastle has lost their first two Premier League games while Southampton lost their first and drew their second matchup. I think this game will be a tough fight between both sides, and I don’t think a winner will come from this matchup.

Prediction: 1-1 Draw between the two clubs.

Brighton vs Everton

The home side in the last eight meetings between these two sides have not lost. 6-2-0 is the home team’s record between Brighton and Everton in their last eight meetings. Everton is coming off of a draw with Leeds, and Brighton is coming off of a win over Watford. I think Everton is due for a win at Brighton this week and the way they could line up will be interesting. Don’t get me wrong Brighton has looked good, but they have also played teams lower than them. I see this being a very close game, but in the end a winner will walk off the pitch.

Prediction: Everton wins 2-1.

West Ham vs Crystal Palace

West Ham has picked up right where they left off last season. The Hammers are hosting Crystal Palace this week, and boy I couldn’t be more happier for them. I think that West Ham is the underdog of the season, and I can’t wait to see where they finish. I’ll digress though and get back into this matchup with Crystal Palace. Palace looks like a side that lacks confidence right now and I think West Ham will take full advantage of that. The Hammers have scored four goals in both games so far this season. I don’t think they will score four again this week, but I think they’ll be close.

Prediction: West Ham 3-0.

Norwich City vs Leicester City

The last time these two sides played it was a Norwich 1-0 win. That was back in February of 2020, things are different now. However Norwich City always plays Leicester City tough. Leicester on paper should be able to win this matchup easily. If this game was at Leicester, I would feel way more confident. Even with the poor showing Norwich has had so far this season, I think they can turn it around. This would be the game to do so.

Prediction: 1-1 draw between the two sides.

Aston Villa vs Brentford

Last week we saw an absolute masterclass of a goal that Danny Ings scored. This week Villa hosts Brentford which have surprised me to start off the campaign. With the way that Aston Villa matchups with Brentford I think is best case scenario. Brentford is a tough defensive minded team and they will give Aston Villa trouble. At the same time I think Aston Villa is still the better team. This matchup will be fun to watch though from start to finish.

Prediction: Aston Villa wins 2-1.

Liverpool vs Chelsea

This is the game of the week in my opinion and I can not wait for this one. Liverpool vs Chelsea is one of those matchups within the Premier League that you will not want to miss this year. They both won their first game 3-0 and then last week won 2-0. Liverpool is loving having Virgil Van Dijk back as their defensive anchor. They have also been without Andy Robertson for their last two games. Robertson should be available for this matchup against Chelsea.

For Chelsea you have Lukaku and company looking to continue their hot play. Chelsea last season beat them at Anfield, but they lost to Liverpool at home. This week they are at Anfield and I can’t wait for this matchup. I think the key matchup will be Liverpool’s defense going up against Chelsea’s attack. This game will be intense from start to finish and I can’t wait to see this playout.

Prediction: 0-0 Draw for both sides.

English Premier League Sunday Slate

Burnley vs Leeds

Burnley hasn’t been the same team on the road as they are at home. At home they are this tough defensive team that any night can give every team in the Premier League a tough time. Last season though when Leeds went to Burnley, they beat them 4-0. Leeds is a team that I am very high on this season. I see this team having no issues with Burnley. Even after doing all my research, I see Leeds winning easy here.

Prediction: Leeds wins 2-0.

Tottenham vs Watford

Tottenham has absolutely surprised me so far this season I will not lie. I thought them hiring Nuno Espirito Santo for their manager position was a move they would regret. He has this team looking like they could be back in Champions League next season. Tottenham is tough defensive and they will make your lives miserable when facing them on the pitch. Spurs have owned Watford in their last 16 league games against one another. 9-6-1 is their record against Watford in that stretch. I think this Tottenham team is dangerous and we will see a high scoring affair on their side this week.

Prediction: Tottenham wins 3-0.

Wolves vs Manchester United

Manchester United is looking to set a new record for longest unbeaten away run in English Football history. They are unbeaten in 27 straight matches on the road. If they don’t lose against Wolves they will own the record. This should be getting talked about more, but it is being overshadowed by their newest signing of Cristano Ronaldo. Ronaldo is coming back to Old Trafford, but he will not be available for this weeks game.

Wolves are not the same team without Nuno Espirito Santo as their manager. This season they have played tough, but not tough enough to win the game. With that being said my prediction should be self explanatory.

Prediction: Manchester United wins 2-0.
