Danton Heinen: A Look at the Rook

The Boston Bruins are chalk full of rookies this season and they are all making their mark on the team in mostly good ways. Danton Heinen has been one of the most interesting players to watch over the course of the season and he is blooming into a great player. Heinen is currently serving as an anchor to a third line that has had great success this year and Heinen has added skill and speed to that third line which is now able to generate more offensive chances than other Bruins’ third lines in recent years.

Heinen has played roles up and down the lineup seeing time on the top lines and is now receiving playing time on the second power play unit as well. On the year Heinen has played in 28 games so far and has 22 points. In his last ten games Heinen has racked up 13 points and has really developed chemistry with David Backes and Riley Nash. Heinen’s +/- sits at a +4 on the season and shows that he has value in the defensive zone as well.

Danton Heinen is only 22 years old and he has plenty of time to improve his NHL game and reach the next level of being a top 6 forward. He has shown flashes of a larger skill set and him showcasing his ability in his rookie season is important for the Bruins this year and for years to come. The Bruins youth is performing and if all the pieces develop properly they could become a force in the Eastern Conference for the next few years.
