The Dallas Cowboys have reportedly offered Dak Prescott a deal that the quarterback turned down. According to Chris Simms, the deal was worth $175 million dollars, $35 million per year. There’s also a report saying that the starting QB wants “north of $45 million.”
Now that we’re done laughing, or not, I’m still laughing!
Dak Prescott was drafted by the Cowboys in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He’s been the starter in Dallas ever since then. Dak led the team to the postseason twice in his four years, losing in the divisional round each time. In the 2019 season, the Cowboys controlled their own destiny. The team should have won the division and made the playoffs, however, they lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 16 losing the division and a shot at the playoffs. He also had 11 interceptions, which isn’t a lot if you compare that to Jamis Winston’s 30. His completion percentage was a respectable 65%, however, the team had a hard time winning games where RB Ezekiel Elliot didn’t rush for more than 100 yards.
I don’t think any player is worth $35 million per year, nevermind $45 million. It’s silly to be eating up that much cap space per year on one person. I think Dak is being outrageously selfish and greedy with his contract negotiations. There are 52 other men that need their payments too. I don’t see them knocking on Dallas’ door asking to come play in Texas.
Even Colin Cowherd is turning on Dak
I’ve gone from sort of sympathetic about Dak Prescott being underpaid — to — bail on him & let him hit the market, and roll w Andy Dalton, after what I’m reading today. @FS1

I used to think that he deserved a decent contract, not the level he was holding out for but definitely fair for an above-average QB. Now it’s hard to feel bad for him. Asking a team to spend nearly a quarter of their salary cap on you and spread the remaining 75% elsewhere is ridiculous, especially when your team has guys like Elliott and Amari Cooper to pay for. That’s just people surrounding Dak, you need heavy hitters on the other side of the ball, too and I think Dak lost sight of that.
