Craig Kimbrel….To The Mets?
I’m going to start this off by saying….how did I miss this? As I was going through the internet, thinking of topics to talk about, I came across this article on NJ.com. It says one of the rumors around baseball is that Craig Kimbrel will be the Mets next closer. How? How did I not realize that Kimbrel’s contract is up at the end of this year? It went right over my head and for that I’m sorry. To put it simply….shit!
Craig Kimbrel has been the only bright spot in our bullpen this season and that doesn’t look to be changing anytime soon. Unless Kimbrel takes the “home town discount”, he’s looking at a possible new contract that could be upwards of 90-100 Million dollars. This is scary. The Sox have recently shown they don’t wanna go over the luxury tax, well dishing out that kind of money to a closer would definitely make that hard.
Kimbrel, who’s turning 30 later this month, has been one of, if not the best closer in baseball since coming into the league in 2010 with the Braves. Obviously, right now I say pay him! At least try to get a contract worked out before he has the opportunity to test the free agent market. If Kimbrel does reach the open market, there is no telling how much money teams will be throwing at him.
The inability to lock up our young studs like Mookie Betts and now the possibility of Kimbrel suiting up for another team next season. I am worried. Dave, buddy, Pal…..PAY THESE FRIGGEN GUYS! We need them if we ever want to win another World Series in the next few seasons.
