Could a Brandon Workman-Red Sox Reunion be in the Works?
The Red Sox need pitching. I don’t know how many times that can be said. You can give Chaim Bloom a little bit of credit though. He has gone out and made some moves to help deepen the pitching staff from top to bottom. There was the signing of Garrett Richards to a one year, 10 million dollar deal. The other day, we had the Adam Ottavino trade from the Yankees that turned heads. Now? We might have a familiar face that could be on the Red Sox radar. That face? Former reliever/closer Brandon Workman.
Sources: Red Sox have expressed interest in a reunion with Brandon Workman. Unknown if talks have progressed. He’s one of many relievers still available and Boston may not be done adding to the bullpen.

Man, do the Red Sox love some interest! Could a Workman to Boston reunion be in the works? Here’s a few reasons why it should happen.
The 8-9 Punch with Ottavino
It gives you a lethal back end of the bullpen. Workman would slide back into the 8th inning role while you could have Ottavino come in to close. If they didn’t like that scenario, they could very easily flip roles. The point is that the Red Sox wouldn’t have to be as worried with closing close games out. It would just be about those middle innings. If a Red Sox pitcher goes seven strong innings, give me Workman and Ottavino to get the last 6 outs. If the starters go five or six, give me a guy to get me through an inning or two. A guy like Darwinzon Hernandez maybe? But anyways, the Workman-Ottavino pairing could be a fun one for the 2021 season should the Red Sox bring back Workman.
The Deal Itself
It probably wouldn’t be a huge contract to get Workman back in Boston. To be honest, he made 3.5 million last season. Give the guy a two year deal worth 10 million dollars and a club option for that second year, call it a day. This is actually a move where the Red Sox don’t have to pony up the dough. It would make for a depth piece while still looking to add potential other arms to strengthen the bullpen. Cause let’s be honest, this bullpen needs a major overhaul!
In Conclusion
I’d be for a Workman back to Boston deal for the right price. Like I mentioned above, five million dollars for Workman and that should be a done deal. Do what you have to do Chaim. You’ve made some pretty good moves over the last week or so. Keep the train rolling going into Spring Training!
