Corona Cans Cape League
By now, we all know Corona is a nightmare. So far, it has canceled a Bruins and Celtics championship season, a Red Sox season (as of now), and forced everyone into this nightmare of social distancing. Well, it has finally crossed the line. Due to the Corona outbreak, the Cape Cod Baseball League has canceled there 2020 summer season. The Cape season was scheduled to begin in June and continue till the middle of August, depending on how well teams do in the playoffs.
Why Cancel So Early?
When I first heard this, I was shocked. Imeddetly thought that this pandemic is not going anywhere anytime soon. After further thinking about it, it makes perfect sense and is the right move. Players from all over the country head to the cape, and most, if not all, stay with host families. So even if things do start opening back up in the next month, it is a huge liability issue for both the players and host families.
Why Is It Such A Big Deal?
This cancelation is a big deal to me because well, screw Corona. In all seriousness, though, the Cape Cod League is an unbelievable experience for any baseball fan. The league is the top amateur summer league in the country for college players. Over 1,100 MLB players have come through the Cape League, some of which are not MLB Hall Of Famers. The Cape League is a non-profit organization and makes all its money strictly from advertisements and donations. One of the coolest things about this league, entrance into the games are entirely free. If the Cape League were able to conduct a season safely, this would be an excellent way for the city of Massachusetts to bounce back. It is a great place to bring your sons or daughters after a great day hanging out on the beaches of Cape Cod. If you have never been to a Cape League game, you are missing out.
