Comeback Kids: Why the 2021 Sox are the Legit Comeback Kids

The story of the Boston Red Sox in 2021 has been the stinginess and fight of the team. They currently have 32 come-from-behind wins after climbing back from a 4-0 deficit to clinch the series win against the New York Yankees yesterday afternoon.

So what makes this team so special? What makes the 2021 Red Sox different from other teams in the American League or the league as a whole?

Let’s dig into some big reasons the 2021 Red Sox are truly The Comeback Kids.

The Manager has Given these Comeback Kids Life

Coming into the season, we knew Alex Cora would be a big boost to this team. What we didn’t know was the mass effect it would have on the team. Cora helps players take the next step, and with that, they have developed a hardened mentality. They have once again taken the mentality of underdogs, and are pushing it to the limit, showing what can be done when you have the right manager and the right mentality during a long season like the MLB.

The Chemistry of this team has created the Comeback Kids

This is undeniably the biggest reason why the 2021 Red Sox are having so much success: team chemistry. I have been a firm believer for years that team chemistry is what leads a team to the promised land in this sport. You can spend as much money as you want in this sport, but it is not gonna mean jack if the team does not click.

That is what made the 2013 and 2018 teams so special. They weren’t favored–let alone the far and away favorites. They built chemistry and watched it carry them through two amazing seasons.

Never EVER count out the Comeback Kids

That brings us to the final topic: the fight and grit of this team. Alex Cora said after their come-from-behind win yesterday against the Yankees that “This team does not give up” and it is true. The fight of this team is amazing, and that is why they have 32 comeback wins. They have exceeded expectations. They have truly cemented themselves as not only a contender but one of the best teams in the league.

Final Thoughts

The Comeback Kids are far from done: The AL East is gonna be an absolute battle to the very last day between Tampa Bay and Boston. As it stands currently, the Red Sox hold a slight one-game lead on the Rays, and that is prior to this weekend’s heavyweight bout between the two teams.

If Boston wants any chance at clinching the East, they need to keep this mentality alive and let it carry them, like it did in 2013 and 2018.

This team is undoubtedly special. They are capable of achieving a lot together. This recent comeback win shows why. The team never gives up. They fight until the last out no matter what the score is.

I have said it before, and I will say it again: this final fight for the AL East crown is gonna be so interesting, and it will make this post-trade deadline season one to remember.
