College Football Week 3 Recap and Your Guide to Week 4

Before the games kicked off for week 3 I did not think it would be that great of a week for college football. This week turned into some absolute thrillers and just proves that college football is worth your time. Before we jump into some games to recap there are a few that I want to mention. First off Mississippi State upset #12 LSU 37-7. While many found this as a surprise I was only a tiny bit shocked. I was never sold on LSU and in a conference game anything can happen. One really fun game from this past week was Memphis beating #25 UCLA 48-45. I’m a big fan of the no defense games. Just go full out gunslinger mode. Last but not least before we get some in depth recap of games, #4 USC beat the joke of a school Texas 27-24. I don’t want to hear any nonsense about how Texas is “back”. If they were back they wouldn’t be 1-2 on the season so far. They have at least another 100 years to go before they become national contenders. Now lets get in depth about some of the really important games.

Clemson 47 Louisville 21

This was the game of the week for everyone and it did not really live up to the hype. I was expecting it to be a lot closer than it actually was. Louisville just got off to a bad start and struggled the rest of the way. Clemson really cemented themselves as repeating as national champs. They aren’t skipping a beat. The big reason they won this game was because of their rushing attack. They ran for a total of 297 yards. If they keep that up they will repeat as national champions.

Florida 26 Tennessee 20

After 3 quarters the score of this game was 6-3. Aka this game to the average fan was a boring defensive game. Too me I thought this was a great game because both of these teams were not known for their defense. When the 3rd quarter ended that’s when this game picked up. Both teams combined scored a total of 37 points in the 4th quarter. The real highlight of this game was when Florida won the game on a 63 yard hail mary as time expired. For some strange reason Tennessee did not drop back the entire defense into the endzone. Not sure if that was a coaching mistake or an idiotic players mistake. Either way it was embarrassing on Tennessee’s part. In reality, Florida should have won this game easily. Tennessee threw 3 interceptions in the game. I’m sure one of the coaching points this week for Florida was capitalizing on turnovers.

What Games to Watch in Week 4

Nick’s Record of Predictions 4-5

#16 TCU @ #6 Oklahoma State 3:30pm ESPN 9/23

This game is very important for college football. This is going to be a big measuring stick for both teams. These conferences rivals both have played very well to start the season but this will be a test for both of them. Last year Oklahoma State got the win on the road beating TCU 31-6. Not much has changed since last year, as both teams have the same starting quarterbacks entering this game. Oklahoma State’s QB Mason Rudolph has played brilliantly so far and there have been some early talks as to whether he is a Heisman contender. He has started the year by throwing for 1,135 yards, 11 tds and only 1 interception. He is going to win this game for the Cowboys. TCU is going to struggle in a hostile environment. Oklahoma State 42 TCU 24

#17 Mississippi State @ #11 Georgia 7:00pm ESPN 9/23

Man this game is another important game for college football this week. It is very similar to what we just talked about. This is a measuring stick game for both teams. Mississippi State had the upset last week against LSU. That was a decent test for them and should have them ready to go against Georgia. Now while Georgia is 3-0 I am not too impressed with them. They struggled to beat Notre Dame in their second game of the season and haven’t really been tested in their other 2 games. The more I look into Georgia the more skeptical I am about them. I’m taking the better QB in this one and that’s Mississippi State’s QB Nick Fitzgerald. Mississippi State 35 Georgia 27

Nick’s Bonus A&M Take

Well well well. A&M is 2-1 heading into a big game against Arkansas. If they win this one they might grab my attention a little more. They got an easy win last week but struggled early on. When you look at pure talent A&M should beat Arkansas. Its the coaching that is the issue. If I was the athletic director and A&M loses to Arkansas I am firing Sumlin right after the game.
