College Football Recap and Games to Watch for Week 2

The first week of college football did not disappoint. We had some thrillers and some blowouts. We did not have any major upsets but boy did we have some good games. The next couple of weeks we will see some decent games and once we get closer too October then the conference games will begin and things will start to heat up. Lets take a closer look at some of the games from last week.

Michigan 33 Florida 17

This was one of the games that I was really excited for. Michigan has a young squad and Florida was playing without 10 players because of suspension. At halftime this game was a nail biter with Florida leading 17-13. Once the 2nd half began, the Wolverines defense woke up. They shut out the Florida offense the rest of the way and got an impressive victory. Keep your eye on Michigan the rest of the season. I think they are as good as last years squad.

Alabama 24 Florida State 7

This was the game that everyone was excited for and for a while it led up to the hype. It was a game in the trenches and both defenses looked really locked in. At halftime we had a score of 10-7 with Alabama leading. At that point I thought, man Florida State can pull this off, but as usual the Tide got the victory. This really must be how non Patriots fans feel. That one team just wins and wins and no one can stop them. Anyways, the real take away from this game was that Florida State’s starting QB Deondre Francois suffered a season ending patella tendon injury. Do I know what a patella tendon is? Hell no. But this guy can’t play on one leg all season. If Florida State wants any shot at the national championship they have to win out the rest of the way with their backup QB.

What Games to Watch in Week 2

Nick’s record of predictions = 2-2

ou-tosu

#5 Oklahoma at #2 Ohio State 7:30pm Saturday 9/9 ABC

Here we go again. Another top 5 match-up the only catch this time is that these two teams played each other last year. The Buckeyes got the victory in Oklahoma 45-24. Both teams won last week, Oklahoma played some bum team and starting QB Baker Mayfield didn’t even play the 2nd half for the Sooners because they were coasting to a victory. The Buckeyes struggled early against Indiana but ultimately got the victory last week. My guess here is that Ohio State will get the victory but not as large as last year. This will be a good game. Ohio State 35 Oklahoma 30

#13 Auburn at #3 Clemson 7:00pm Saturday 9/9 ESPN

I am really looking forward to this game. I think this game is going to be an absolute thriller. These two teams matched up last year in Auburn with Clemson winning 19-13. Now ultimately Clemson lost some guys from last year so traditionally this season should be tougher. Let me tell you this, don’t count on it. Clemson looked really impressive last week. Auburn had a tough year last year and is looking to bounce back this year. Unfortunately for Auburn, they won’t win this game. I think Clemson will squeak out a close victory, possibly an overtime game. Clemson 30 Auburn 23

#14 Stanford at #6 USC 8:30pm Saturday 9/9 FOX

This game is also going to be an interesting one to watch. Last year Stanford got the victory against USC 27-10. The catch there was that USC QB Sam Darnold did not play the entire game. Both teams got the victory last week so this game will mean a lot for both teams. This is a tough game to predict but I’m going to go with my gut and my gut is telling me to pick Stanford. Stanford 41 USC 27

NICK’S FIRE RAGING STUPID A&M GAME BONUS TAKE

I don’t even know what the hell to say. That whole first half I was booking my trip to the national championship. The second half I felt like an Atlanta Falcons fan. Just bad coaching as usual. I’m going to take the same approach as my Dad for the rest of the season. I won’t be watching another A&M game unless they’re 4-1 going into the Alabama game and even then I still might not watch.
