Chargers/Bills Recap

The Buffalo Bills are now 8-3 after defeating the Los Angeles Chargers 27-17 on Sunday. It wasn’t a pretty win, but a win is a win and if you’re the Bills, it was a must win after a heartbreaking loss to the hands of the Arizona Cardinals a couple of weeks ago. In this article, I will tell you a couple of things that stood out to me.

Hail Mary defense

For the second game in a row, the Bills defense gave up a Hail Mary, but this one wasn’t as painful as the last one. Down by ten late in the fourth quarter, the Chargers needed a big play to get them back in the game. Quarterback Justin Herbert was trying to find someone open and he did. Wide receiver Tyron Johnson caught the ball, getting the Chargers deep inside of Bills territory. No points came out of it, but if you’re a Buffalo fan, it is a bit concerning. You can see the play down below but it’s definitely something Buffalo needs to work on.

AJ Klein continues to impress

Upon Further Review: Playing 'more free' has unleashed Bills linebacker A.J. Klein | Buffalo Bills News | NFL | buffalonews.com

After playing very poorly and being criticized heavily by Bills fans during the first few weeks of the season, linebacker AJ Klein had another impressive game on Sunday. Klein had 14 tackles and 1.5 sacks against the Chargers and it’s good to see him have success. I’m not sure what transpired with him but this is great news for the Bills especially with the season reaching the last few weeks.

Getting tricky

Josh Allen and Justin Herbert weren’t the only one’s throwing touchdown passes on Sunday. Bills wide receiver Cole Beasley was able to show off his arm when he threw a touchdown pass to rookie wide receiver Gabriel Davis. I love when the Bills do these kind of trick plays because it’s cool to see a different play and it throws the opponents off guard.

Final thoughts:

Overall, the game itself was bizarre. It wasn’t just the Bills however. The Chargers play calling was questionable, especially in the fourth quarter. With Buffalo, there were flags and turnovers that need to be cleaned up. However, as I mentioned earlier, a win is a win and you take them anyway you can get them. Does Buffalo need to improve? Yes, absolutely. But wins aren’t easy to get in the NFL. If you’re a Bills fan not feeling good about the win, that’s fair and understandable. With that being said, be happy the team is 8-3.

Buffalo will look to go 9-3 as they will take on the San Francisco 49ers in Arizona because Santa Clara had to shut down sports because of the COVID-19 pandemic. You can catch the game on ESPN on Monday Night Football.
