BUY James Robinson!
Heading into Thursday Night Football, many in the fantasy football world believe that Jacksonville Jaguars’ running back James Robinson is a must sell high candidate. I’ve seen and heard this advice over and over, so I took a dive into the deep end. So what were my findings? Well you will have to keep reading to get the goods, but I will say this…BUY James Robinson.
2020 Production
First lets quickly bring up Robinson’s 2020 campaign. J Rob ran for 1,070 yards, which was enough for 5th in the NFL. He finished in the top 15 out of running backs in the following categories: RB targets (60), RB receptions (49), RB total TDs (10), RB target share (11.8%), evaded tackles (79), and juke rate (27.3%). Oh and he finished top 5 in fantasy points per game (17.9). You can find all this on playerprofiler.com. James Robinson was an ultra-reliable running back last year.

Heading into this year the skepticism was high due to the Jaguars’ 1st round selection, Travis Etienne and rightfully so. But Etienne is out for the year and 3 weeks in, Robinson has some positive trends working for him.
So far in 2021…
Pro Football Focus has given James Robinson an 83.7 Grade for Rushing. If you are unfamiliar with that PFF grading system, allow me to inform you where that ranks in the league. The 83.7 is currently the HIGHEST grade given for backs with 30 or more carries.

Three weeks into the NFL season, Robinson has been a factor in the passing game. He has run 68 routes (3rd best amongst RB). The Jaguars’ back has also averaged 5 targets per game and 13.2% target share. That is top 12 for running backs. He has hauled 12 catches (4 per contest) which is top 12 for backs in football. Receptions are 2.5 times for valuable than RB carries in PPR scoring formats. Robinson continues to be the pass catching running back in Jacksonville (Hyde only has 2 receptions). That is worth starting in most fantasy leagues.
James Robinson has also been efficient as a runner. He is averaging 5.2 yards per carry. A mark that puts him in the top 5 in football. Just like in 2020, J Rob ranks in the top 15 in evaded tackles (14) and juke rate (32.6%) so far this year. He has 4 runs of 10 or more yards and 2 runs of 15 or more yards in just 3 games. If you like your running back to be elusive, well Robinson is that guy. Currently ranked 6th in football with a 99.9 Elusive Rating according to PFF. The guy gets the job done.

Go get Robinson
I would say the last reason why he is a buy IS because he so frequently said to be a sell high. Your opposition may keep hearing this and decide they must move on. Be the buyer that swoops in and grabs a guy more than capable of being your RB 2 for the rest of the season.
On Thursday night, the Jags face off with the Bengals. The clock is ticking to acquire Robinson before he locks in for the week. Work fast people, but don’t worry if you can’t make it happen before the buzzer.
So far Cincinnati has been tough against opposing running backs. If Robinson balls out, the assumption would be that the buy window will shut. I wouldn’t say that because the narrative could easily remain that he is a sell high. Regardless of his Week 4 performance, I believe James Robinson is a buy in fantasy football.
