Buffalo Bills 2020 Postseason Recap

After finishing the regular season with a record of 13-3, the Buffalo Bills finished second best in the AFC. It was a great season but the playoffs are a whole different story. Just like I did in my recent article, I will give a brief recap of each postseason game.

Wild card round vs. IND (BUF 27-IND 24)

In a game which had fans in Bills Stadium for the first time since last season, this game also saw a battle come down to the final drive. Going into this game, the Colts were considered a dark horse team to win it all. After a good regular season, Indianapolis was no pushover and it showed during the game as they gave Buffalo a run for their money. Bills quarterback Josh Allen also showed off his arm as he found his favorite target, Stefon Diggs in the endzone which you can check out below.

Rookie wide receiver Gabriel Davis also showed the world he has skill with two nice catches.

In reality, the Colts should’ve won the game. They played better than the Bills and made some questionable decisions, which is one of the reasons why they lost in my opinion. But in this league, a win is a win and the Bills would win the game after knocking down a Hail Mary on the final play.

Divisional round vs. BAL (BUF 17-BAL 3)

When it comes to the divisional round, this was no doubt the matchup of the weekend. Both the Bills and Ravens were the two hottest teams at the end of the regular season. This game was headlined by two quarterbacks who were in the 2018 quarterback draft class. Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson would face off once again. It was a sloppy first half by both teams because the weather was playing a factor. You can tell it was when Justin Tucker, the best kicker in the NFL, misses two field goals. At halftime, the score was 3-3. In the third quarter however, the Bills offense got the first and only offensive touchdown of the game when Allen found Diggs to take the lead.

At the end of the third quarter, the Bills took control of the game. With the Ravens on the verge of tying the game up, Buffalo cornerback Taron Johnson would make a franchise altering play. Johnson would pick off Jackson in the endzone and took it all the way to the house for a pick six. I still get chills from this play and I know I’m not the only one.

Buffalo won the game and advanced to the AFC championship game.

Without a doubt, this was the biggest game of the year for the Bills. They only needed one win and they were heading to the Super Bowl. The obstacle, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. The Bills had a 9-0 lead thanks to a fumble on a punt that was at the Chiefs one yard line. However, after that moment, it was all Kansas City. If you were a Bills fan, it was hard to watch. There were times where the team was struggling in the first half and would make halftime adjustments then execute in the second half. In this game though, it didn’t happen and the Chiefs would eliminate the Bills.

If this game taught me anything, it was the gap between the two teams. Kansas City is the team to beat and Buffalo were the runner ups. The Bills are a good team, but the Chiefs were on another level, until Tom Brady faced them. One thing is for sure, there will be more playoff games between the Bills and the Chiefs in the near future.

Final thoughts

Buffalo took the next step this year. Even though it was rough way to get eliminated, Bills fans should be proud of this team. They accomplished a whole lot and will be hungrier next season.
