Bruins Injury Notes
The Boston Bruins mounted an incredible comeback against the Carolina Hurricanes last night scoring five goals in the third period to steal two points from the Hurricanes. What the Bruins did last night was beyond impressive but in the process of the game they lost three more players to injury. The injury bug is striking the Bruins hard right now but they keep pulling off victories and stacking points.
The Bruins have already lost two of their better players to injury in Charlie McAvoy who is out until early April and Bergeron who will be re-evaluated in a few days. In Tuesday night’s game the Bruins lost three more players in Zdeno Chara, Torey Krug and Jake DeBrusk. These three guys have been playing huge roles on the Bruins the entire year. Chara is the anchor of the Bruins defense and it’s been that way since he signed with them in 2006. In the third period Chara lost his footing and appeared to smash his shoulder into the boards, after the incident he did not return to the game. His injury appears to be upper body and hopefully is nothing too serious but he was seen leaving the x-ray room at PNC Arena last night.
Next is Torey Krug and this is another painful one for the Bruins. Krug has been playing well all year largely contributing to the Bruins offense and quarterbacking their power play. Krug’s injury was less clear but looks like it might be a lower body issue. He also went to get x-rays and was seen walking a little slower than usual afterwards.
Lastly, DeBrusk smacked his head into the boards late in the second period and didn’t return to the game. DeBrusk has also been playing well lately with 10 points in his last 10 games. DeBrusk was removed from the game for precautionary reasons. Hopefully avoided getting a concussion and can return to action soon.
Well good thing the Bruins added all those depth players around the deadline because now they really need them. If both Chara and Krug can’t play on Thursday look for McQuiad to slide back into the lineup and the possibility of the Bruins calling up Paul Postma or Tommy Cross. The hardest part will be dividing up Chara’s minutes and deciding who is the best fit on that top pair with Brandon Carlo. If DeBrusk is out Thursday night look for Heinen to slide into his spot and then Wingels to fill in on the third line. Heinen scored the tying goal last night while playing on Krejci’s wing so you’d figure they would keep them together for now.
The Bruins being able to overcome these injuries and a three goal deficit has me fired up for a Stanley Cup run! Now the Bruins will likely call up a couple guys from Providence just in case more injuries pile on and they need extra guys for Thursday night’s tilt against the Florida Panthers.
