Bruins-Hurricanes Round 1 Preview

Well Bruins fans, it’s officially back. The Boston Bruins once again find themselves in the NHL playoffs. Not that it’s really a surprise! But anyway…the Bruins find themselves facing a familiar postseason opponent: the Carolina Hurricanes. This is the third time in the last four postseasons that the Bruins and Hurricanes have met. So who will take home this first round matchup in the 2022 NHL playoffs? Let’s give a preview of the Bruins and Hurricanes series!

No Frederick Anderson Could be HUGE for the Bruins and BAD for the Hurricanes

Frederick Anderson has been pronounced as out for game one of the playoffs tonight against the Bruins. Now, this could be huge for the Bruins! I understand that playoff hockey is so unpredictable. But you’ll take your chances with a backup goalie. Antti Ranta? Last time he was in the playoffs, he was giving up six goals a game with the Coyotes! The longer that Anderson is out, the more that it could benefit the Bruins. Take advantage of a good goaltender being out and make sure to put a lot of shots on net!

The Bruins Goaltending Against the Hurricanes

The Bruins come into this playoff run with a weird, new thing: no Tuukka Rask. So now, the Bruins will rely on Linus Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman. It looks like Ullmark will get the start in net for the Bruins in game one and in the playoffs going forward. That could change based on performance. But can the Bruins make a deep playoff run with goaltenders that don’t have the big-game experience? That remains to be seen! So hopefully, Ullmark and Swayman will step up to the challenge and help the Bruins in the first round and hopefully beyond.

Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand’s Last Ride Together?

Time is slowly slipping away for the Bruins core to win Stanley Cups. The two main parts, Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand, are getting older. Bergeron is 36 and Marchand is 33, respectively. Plus, Bergeron is a free agent after this season. If the Bruins let him walk, it’ll be a huge mistake. But it’s possible! The Bruins secondary scoring needs to come into play to help Bergeron and Marchand out. If it’s a quick playoff exit, we could see Bergeron out the door and Marchand doesn’t have that much time left either.

In Conclusion

This will be a fun series. Two good teams meeting in the first round. Carolina on paper should take this series. But with Anderson’s uncertainty and the Bruins playoff experience, it’s hard to go against the Bruins here. It all starts with game 1 tonight!

Series Prediction: Bruins in 6
