Bentley University Women’s Basketball Is Heading To The Big Dance
I am obsessed with the Bentley University Women’s Basketball team.
If you know me personally, then you’ve been wondering when this article was going to be written. If you don’t know me then let me explain. It’s clear cut and simple, I love this team with all my heart and I’m not ashamed to admit it. It all started in the fall of 2013. It was my freshman year at Bentley University, and I got to witness a perfect 35-0 season capped off with a national championship.
The team had such great chemistry, amazing discipline, and they had the best coach in the league, the GOAT Barbara Stevens. Not only was that year great, but the program always puts out a competitive team year after year. The best comparison I can think of would be the New England Patriots, a team that competes year after year with the greatest coach of all time at the helm.
This past Sunday they added to their storied franchise with their 20th NE-10 Championship and 7th in the past 9 years. It wasn’t an easy win for them, trailing by as much as 14 points in the 3rd quarter. They rallied with 7 straight points in the final 1:50 to tie the game and send it OT.
It came down to the wire, with Bentley down by 2 with 7 seconds remaining. With ice in her veins, Senior captain Macchi Smith took things into her own hands.

Bentley sealed the win and the championship with a steal on the final inbound pass. It was a tough game to watch, especially having to comeback from such a big deficit against a great Stonehill team. If there is anything I have learned watching this team the past 4 years it’s this, no matter the score as long as Barbara Stevens is on that bench Bentley always has a chance.
Bentley begins their quest for another National Championship this Friday at 2:30 pm vs Jefferson.
It will be fun to watch no doubt, especially because this team has so much heart you can’t help but love them. They have such a great focus on team play, and they have so much depth. With many great players coming off the bench for crucial minutes throughout the game. It’s easy to see the magic that this team has, and who knows maybe they even have some 2014 magic in them.
To the Coaches Barbara Stevens, C White, Christiana Bakolas, and all of the players good luck and just know I along with the rest of the Bentley community will be streaming all the games cheering you on to another Championship run.
