I love the NBA man.
Everyone is so petty and so quick to subtweet one another. I feel like I’m in high school again whenever a story like this pops up.
We all know damn well that there have been some impressive rookies this season. Ben Simmons might be the best player I’ve seen at his age since LeBron. Donovan Mitchell came out of nowhere and led Utah to the playoffs. Jayson Tatum has exceeded everyone’s expectations. I could go on and on because the list doesn’t really stop. I think it’s safe to say this league will be in good hands for the near future with all of these kids.
Now I’m all for Ben Simmons saying that he deserves rookie of the year. Because honestly, he does. I can’t put into words how impressed I’ve been with him, especially since the all-star break. And you want your best player to be that confident about himself. But to say that nobody else in this rookie class has caught his eye is downright savage. It’s disrespectful. It’s crazy. It’s cocky. But I LOVE IT. We all know whoever asked that question was hoping to get something like “Yeah, Donovan Mitchell, and Jayson Tatum have been pretty impressive,” because they have been. But nope. Ben Simmons went full big-ego on the entire NBA, and I’m here for it.
If the future of this league is in the hands of Ben Simmons, Donovan Mitchell, Jayson Tatum, and everyone else that Ben Simmons disrespected with this quote then I’ll be happy. Why? We need more rivalries in the NBA. I feel like everyone in the league likes one another way too much. I want these guys to hate each other. When I watch Philly vs. Utah, I want to see Donovan Mitchell going at Ben Simmons as hard as possible for saying this. Having that extra chip on his shoulder will absolutely create for a rivalry down the road. That’s something I can’t wait to see.
