Just days after verbally committing to re-signing with the Celtics this Summer, it appears that Kyrie Irving is doing some recruiting.
Who’s the big ticket item? Just some guy named Anthony Davis. You know, the 25 year-old MVP candidate that has been linked to Boston since coming out of college in 2012. Just imagine a lineup with him, Kyrie Irving, Gordon Hayward, and Jayson Tatum. Ugh.
Anthony Davis is currently under contract until 2021, including a player option for 2020. If Kyrie is really in his ear, I could see him opting out. However, the Celtics cap situation is going to look pretty dicey two Summers from now. Al Horford’s contract ends that Summer, which would free up a max slot, but Jaylen Brown is also due for an extension by then. Do you just let Brown walk and bring in AD? Do you trade for him beforehand? All of your guesses are as good as mine, but I have a hard time seeing Ainge letting Brown go for nothing. I’d love to see it happen, but the C’s would need a lot of dominos to fall in order to get Anthony Davis in green.
