Another Injury hits the Sox

New report out today that Eduardo Rodriguez is heading to the DL after only going 5 2/3 innings allowing 7 runs on 8 hits striking out 6. Sources indicate that E-Rod slipped in the bullpen before last nights game and re-injured his knee.

i imagine the Red Sox will now recall Brian Johnson to take the place of Rodriguez in the rotation while he recovers and that is the exact move they should do. This is a much bigger red flag to me that it seems. Rodriguez has had knee surgery last year and missed some time recovering from that. His knee seems to be a reaccuring problem and a much bigger one that the Sox want to admit for obvious reasons.

If it is truly that bad, weirdly I don’t care if they let the media know or not thats irrelivent, they just need to bite the bullet and make another move to bring in a guy that can stay healthy and fill that 4 or 5 spot in the rotation. They have a 3 year window to win a championship while Sale is still in Boston they can not afford to just shrug their shoulders and say “oh well maybe next year!”. Next year is going to be a even tougher time to win the division with just seeing what the Yankees are doing this year. Allowing those young guns in the Bronx to gain another year under their belt is only going to make they even more dominant and scarier to face down the stretch.

I’m not saying go trade or sign a guy, who knows maybe Johnson comes back up an consistently gives you 6 innings allowing about 3 runs a game and striking out between 6-8 batters. To me you can live with that out of your fifth starter, not ideal by any means, but still a reliable starter and definitely keeps you in games.

The Sox went on a nice little 6 game winning streak last week and need to continue to play well if they wanna stay in the top two teams in the division, especially now that Toronto is starting to play better. John Farrell and the Sox can not afford to wait this out and need to make changes now especially if Farrell wants to keep his job this year.
