Meek Mill released an album called Championships last Friday morning and it’s something we’ve never seen before. Meek went on a media tour to Fox Sports, CNN, and ESPN after releasing the album explaining how this album is different from his others.
The reason he gives is bone chilling, and everybody needs to hear this.
He phrases his answer so the message is clear. He did this album to explain what life was like in prison for the amount of time he was in there. I wouldn’t be shocked if a rapper has told us about his or her time in prison, but Meek is real about it. He wants prison reform badly. Probably the closest rapper that actually speaks facts about jail and prison from experience is T.I.
A lot of his lyrics and songs speak on his time in prison but Meek goes even deeper with it, he doesn’t glorify it like Lil Wayne does.
Meek on the other hand, explains to us what it is like to be “free” with his song What’s Free with Jay Z and Rick Ross. The intro also has a spark to it; it has Phil Collins’, In the Air Tonight as it’s instramentals while Meek freestyles his versus.
But overall after listening to the full album, I’d give it a grade of a B.
